The QB Thread

Right now I wouldn’t draft Herbert in the top 10.

Opinions may vary but that’s where I’m at.

As far as a veteran pick one. I’m open to all of em as long as Carr is gonzo
If Carr isn't gone after this season ends there won't be much to get excited about on this forum no matter who the Raiders draft or sign.

Do you think someone will draft Herbert in the top 5?

Right now I do.

There is always a QB going early.

Might be Lock or Herbert or Haskins or maybe Jones/Grier. Who knows. But I think the QB value is in late round one and I don't want to reach on a QB just because ours is shitty.

Reminds me of Trubisky where I didnt see top 5 talent.

I liked Mahomes the best in 2017

At this point I really don’t think he is coming out. But some of it will depend on the final draft order, and where he is projected to go. I think if you told him he’d be guaranteed to end up in New York with the Giants this year, he’d likely come out. If we have the number one overall pick, and we’re looking at him, guessing he thinks real hard about returning to Oregon. We need to improve the roster before we draft another QB.

OK fair enough on Herbert. Has he ever looked good? Can your opinion of him change between now and the end of the college season? Or is your assessment final.

Although I have not watched a lot of college football I think that all the QB's in this coming draft as in all drafts have flaws in their game.

So your basically saying you see another Carr in Herbert. I guess we'll have to wait and see how the talent evaluation process shakes out by draft time or sooner.

Herbert has all the height, weight, arm and speed assets. The question is the toughness and leadership qualities. By what I've read he's a biology major and does have the smarts. I also understand he is vocal leader.

If you watch the Stanford game you would walk away saying, damn that guy is pretty good. Then you could watch him against some lesser squad like SJ state and walk away going what is all the hype for? I think he needs to play well consistently in order to be considered a first rounder, but also maybe another year in school will get him ready and he’ll be that guy. That’s why I and others keep saying wait till next year, it will be a stronger class.

Rypien > Finley
There a reason Finley is at NC...

Will Grier > Other QB’s. Haskins is pretty good too, but he just doesn’t have that “it” factor when I watch him. Grier is legit. Polished. Tough. Good arm, size. Accurate. Competitive. Mature off the field. He’s my guy by a fairly wide margin.

Will sell tickets better too. New hope for a new beginning !

Make The Raiders Great Again

Gruden is kind of a wildcard here.

I wouldn’t be on it but it wouldn’t shock me at all to see go for a QB early.

Yeah buddy.

I agree he's still my fave. Pretty mobile too.

I'm trying to decide if he's a 2nd round guy I'm forcing into round one or if I'm just behind on his evaluation.

He has his warts but they all fuckin do usually.

He keeps willing that team to win and putting up the numbers he’s putting up against good competition, I see him rising like Baker Mayfield did last year. Probably not #1 over all type of rise, but I could see him easily getting into the first round. He’s there now IMO. He’s got that “it” factor.

You guys are talking me back onto the Grier bandwagon.

Groupthink lol.

He looked pretty bad against Kansas(?) though.

I had a foot off...Then he looked good against Baylor/Texas and I felt happy again haha.

Texas game was fun as hell. He has more grit in his left nut than Carr his whole career.

I think the QB talk is probably a waste of time but a guy can hope.

He’s the only QB that I would be excited about drafting. The rest are “meh”. Weak class. Finley for instance, I’ve seen ppl put him in their top 25, I live in NC I’ve seen bits and pieces of quite a few of his games. I think he’s fringe 3rd round talent.

I think if Carr continues to play like ass, Gruden pulls the plug. I think he WANTED to make it work, but he’s proven that he will get a new QB really often until he finds one he likes. I think Mark would listen to him if he told him Carr’s not the guy. I believe fixing Carr was a huge reason Mark paid Gruden so much. But if he can’t be fixed, I think Mark let’s Gruden trade him for a pick or two.

Me too.

In Finley's defense the only live game I've seen of him this year was Clemson...And thats tough sledding for most hahaha.

Crazy to think their best prospect in a sea of NFL talent is probably the freshman pass rusher.

Shea Patterson is starting to win me over too....I’m waiting for that game (probably OSU) where he’s gonna have to throw it 35 times to get a real good feel for his arm and accuracy....But dammit. He’s getting better each week.

Seen him against a couple of fringe ACC teams and was not impressed. He is starting to drop on some of the sites.

Damn dude you getting into this draft shit hard!

Someone posted about Patterson and I said the same thing!

I gotta see him in a shoot out instead of handing it off to Higdon 40 times!

Completing 12 passes a game with 9 in the box aint gonna be enough for me to bang the table for him hahah. Dude has cracked 250 once this year. I want to see a dog fight/shoot out.

Yep EXACTLY! I see great footwork, really really good ball handling on play action fakes, good pocket awareness, quick compact delivery. Looks like he’s got a pretty good arm. He’s pretty accurate from the pocket but VERY accurate and really comfortable throwing on the run. Will run it, can make guys miss. Alex Smith early years is a good comp running wise. Looks like he’s about 6’2”, 210-215. Could stand to add about 10 good lbs. I like what I see, but as you said, I want to see him be forced to win a game. Not manage one with that defense and run game. I think the OSU game is HUGE for him. And then depending on who they play in whatever Bowl they wind up in. He may not come out, another year of polish and he could really be something.

I think I put him in the 4th or 5th round.

I probably hate on Shea because there are so many Wolverine fans so I have to play bad cop to everyones good cop (Jabril Peppers etc)

But you can't forget he was a 5 star recruit and a big time talent. He has NFL traits. Him and Grier both sell play action like you are supposed to and will move around. Even the Duke guy Daniel Jones does play action the way I want to see it.

I fuckin hate when the QB and RB are lazy and don't really sell it. Its a one second thing that could ice a game if you do it right.
