Welcome to the team - Connor Cook

We punted 12 times and turned it over what 4 times? I think it was at about a 10 on the maximum 'unbearable' scale as it is.

He played like ass after the first qtr. But. So did the rest of the offense. Andre Holmes was the lone bright spot. And he only had 50 yards....Just an all around ass raping.

It would take a minor miracle for the guy we saw yesterday to be ready to be Carr's primary backup going into next season.

And I actually like Cook.

Seems to me if you've been here any length of time over 14 years then that scale is for sure a "sliding"scale.Although this year it's come back this way a little. My points that's probably not the worst we've ever seen.

Which record?

I probably don't want to know actually.

Didn't we set the record for punts in a playoff game?

Thought I heard that but could be wrong...

I know the Texans and their garbage O had 12 or 13 total possessions which seems absolutely insane.

Backup Quarterbacks:

So what do people expect from a backup QB?

I'd say you need a decent one to go in for a few plays while your starter is tying his shoes or getting a different helmet and stuff like that.

You need one to fill in for a quarter if your starter gets dinged or even a game if push comes to shove.

But if your starter gets really hurt and is out for any length of time -- you're fucked. There isn't a backup quarterback in the league that can adequately fill in for the starting QB for 5, 6, or 7 games. If they win 40% of those games good for them. By then though you're toast anyway!

So again I'm not sure what the expectation is for the backup QB. It's crazy to think the backup comes in for Derek Carr and the team functions normally. Especially in the playoffs. That just isn't going to happen.

Bottom line is Cook is as good as probably any other backup QB.

Ideally you'd like someone that isn't so green that you need to dust off JaMarcus Russell's play flashcard.

I get your point though. The state of NFL QBing is so bad that ideal backups like Fitzpatrick are getting paid millions to start and top draft picks are flaming out so quickly that their second team still needs to teach them the ropes.

The way Cook looked was exactly how I expected him to look. He was running plays that he might have just ran for one week. Most rookies at least get to practice and prepare in training camp. It was a good way to ruin a young QB. He was put into a position to fail not to succeed.
He had and has all the tools to be a starting NFL QB. More NFL ready coming out than Carr was as Cook came from more of a pro style offense and Derek is just getting comfortable under center in his third year. I am not saying Cook will succeed but he has all the physical tools.

was hoping for a little better performance but he got next to no help from his WRs and RBs. Led 2 scoring drives against the #1 defense in a postseason game - I'll take it and hope that he can progress. I'm comfortable giving up on McGloin next year and rolling with Cook as the backup

Matts gutsy and I have no hate for the guy. He has done well for himself if he never plays another down in the NFL. Walk on everywhere he has been, and cashed a good pay check this year. Maybe his ceiling has been reached though. I wish him well with his next team.

yea ive got no hate for the guy. I've never was in the camp of him being our future. I'd just rather roll with Cook from here on out. He's got an NFL future.

I'm not saying Raiders would have won but if some of those drops yesterday would have been catches, momentum would have shifted considerably

Andre Holmes yesterday > Crabtree

Brock Osweiler doesn't appreciate that comment...

Still mad the Broncos didnt make that mistake. We all knew he sucked, not sure why the Texans didnt? Im not big on either of those new Qbs they have either. Jury is still out tho, they are green.
