Wingspan is the standout for MJ. Fast enough and tall enough. "Fiesty"

Coach him up and add him to the group

Value:
  • Arif: #201 (CB23)
  • MDCBB: #185 (CB28)
  • AP/Telescope: #229 (CB33)

  • A two-year starter at Pittsburgh, Devonshire was a perimeter cornerback in head coach Pat Narduzzi’s zone-heavy scheme (72.7 percent of Devonshire’s 2023 defensive snaps came in zone coverage).
  • After transferring back home from Kentucky in 2021, he followed in the footsteps of his childhood hero and fellow Aliquippa alum Darrelle Revis as a playmaker on both defense and special teams (first Aliquippa player since Revis in 2006 to score on a punt return and interception return in the same season).
  • In off coverage, Devonshire can read through the route to the quarterback or stay in the pocket of receivers in man-to-man, using his long arms to challenge throws in his air space.
  • However, his inconsistent anticipation and lack of disciplined technique will make it tough for him to stay in phase versus savvy route runners.
  • Overall, Devonshire is more of an aggressive athlete than true instinctive ballhawk, but his linear burst, speed and length help him make plays in coverage. He is a developmental player with the tools to play man, zone and special teams.

Hard day, hopefully with a happy ending. Love his traits. Ricky Manning has a lot of raw talent to mold.

Bruce Feldman…

@Choosing Devonshire for my seventh-round value pick was a tougher call than any other round on Day 3. I think Devonshire will emerge as a starting corner.”

Steeler Depot had a 5th round grade on Devonshire and liken him to former Steeler William Gay, a former 5th round physical/handsy boundary CB with similar H/W/S profile the Steelers moved inside to the slot, where he had a good career. Wonder if Graham’s plan is to similarly move Devonshire inside to slot CB.

It'd be nice to hit on at least one of Bennett/Richardson/Devonshire at CB and Chris Smith/Trey Taylor at S. I don't really expect much out of any of them though... hope I'm wrong.

It would be nice if one of Bennett and/or Richardson could develop into a starter to play opposite Love Boat Jones. Chris Smith barely saw the field last year. I'll be surprised if he makes the roster this year. I think Taylor has an outside shot to stick. He's got good size and has a high football IQ, plus he loves to lay the wood.

Landing another Hobbs caliber DB on Day 3 would be nice.

Safeties stayed pretty healthy so there was no reason but his athletic profile is pretty weak too. Might not be cut out for NFL after a good collegiate career.

Hmmm. Needs to shut down those big plays. A move to the slot might be in order. Hobbs needs a back up now that we created that opening, which I remind unhappy about. Lol

In other words he's a knuckledragger..
Suspicious Futurama GIF

While other beat writers do nothing, Hondo interviews new prospects and their college HC. Perhaps that’s why players in the lockerroom know / like Hondo. Meet MJ, a long, fast CB with press-man experience.

Pitt coach on Devonshire …

M.J. is a guys from the Pittsburgh area, played at Aliquippa High School, and ... he's long, got long arms, he's tall, he's athletic, he's rangy and he can run," Narduzzi said.

“And on top of all that, with all the physical attributes that he has, I think the biggest thing that M.J. Devonshire has is that he's a playmaker. He is a playmaker, he wants the ball, he wants to make big plays, and people talk about his ability to play corner, [but] his ability to also be a punt returner and a kick returner, and again -- obviously, punt returner is a lot harder than kick returner -- he wants the ball in his hands. If you pulled some of his Aliquippa tape, he was a great punt returner.

Amazing that the Raiders were the only team aware of this playmaker's existence. Lucky us.

How many teams play press-man? Perhaps he has a shrinking market. Every year Sea seems to snag Cover 3 long CB who fall into their lap.
