The Del Rio, Pagano & Norton Thread

Reggie Jackson had the best response ever to a Stuttering John question.

John: When you were playing ball, did you ever fart in the catcher's face?
Reggie: Yes, and if you hang out long enough, I'll fart in your face.

I remember he was interviewing Imelda Marcos and asked her if she farted lol

Face it - Charles Woodson retired too soon for OWN good.

Pretty much me too.

Reggie did an awful job assembling the defense.

One dominant player, a couple of good players -- and the rest is SLOP.

It's hard to really get much done when your personnel blows.

Thanks, mumbles, you fucking block head.

Pull the posts: when this GM came in, he had a top-7 offense and bottom 3 D. His solution was to accept a change in offensive scheme that required FA spending on ZBS linemen and drafting a guy with his first pick who pretty much never saw a snap.

Meanwhile three+ seasons of rent-a-corners and bunch of other one-year prove-it deals to guys who for the most part didn't prove anything left us with no continuity on D. Norton is far from a desirable DC, but his GM left him in a position few guys would have been all that successful.

Perhaps, but there is plenty of talent to work with. Dallas is getting by with less, for example. Norton sucks.

The reason the offense was so highly rated is because we were always way behind and scored many garbage points. Carson throwing to Moore and Ford, Micheal Bush racking up yards. They were decent, but don't confuse them with a great offense.

Oh. So the 4.5+ yards per carriesMcFadden gained under Hubert as OC don't matter. Gotcha.

In McFaddens one decent season here? How could I have forgotten? Did it translate to a winning season? If not my point stands, we were way behind in most games so we got garbage yards simple as that.

As I said, we were decent, but certainly not a top offense.

Mack, MEJ in year 2, Ellis (who was very solid rookie year), Damn Williams coming off a strong season, Malcolm Smith was above average last year, Amerson was graded highly, Joseph widely thought of as possibly the best S in the draft. Signed S.Smith who was a very good CB last 4-5 years, Signed Irvin who had been pretty good. Signed a Pro Bowl S in Nelson. Drafted Ward in round 2.....He tried to fill the defensive side with some quality players.....Henry was a complete whiff. Picked up Riley Jr who has graded out as a top 15 MLB....Ellis/Williams/Heeney have been ass. Nelson has made costly mistakes. S. Smith can't cover blazing WR's but yet does so. Amerson has been ok but not as good as last year. Malcolm Smith sucks. MEJ has been hurt. Goodell fucked Aldon.....Pull the posts we all thought this defense was gonna be good. The talking heads and all of us liked our signings and most of the talent we had.....Several players have played like shit who played well last year. Several mental mistakes a game since the preseason. Carrie only in after an injury. Smith constantly matched up on a guy he can't stick with. No disguised blitzes. Just complete ass from the DC. I think an upgrade there can improve what we have but Reggie and co whiffed at MLB big time. We need a few more pieces and a new D.C. It's very fixable in one off season.

The guy from Vanderbilt should be there when we pick in the 1st round. He could feel the void.

JDR's dropped more than a few hints that he's not happy with Norton. In terms of talent, there's no question this defense has been sub-par. Broken coverage, terrible tackling, eye violations, etc- it's clear that side of the ball has been a mess. You don't let a struggling offense like Denver play the way they did with that much on the line. They lose this weekend, and I've got to think Norton's gone. Dude had two years to grow into a decent coordinator, send his ass back to position group coaching.

You can ,, :gripe:, and :banghead: all you want about Reggie...but look who is being touted as an example of how to rebuild.

Every draft profile I've read on this guy says that he has tackling issues. No thanks.

I'd rather sacrifice coverage skills a little bit and get guys that can take on a blocker and bring a RB down, which brings me back to pass rush. It's damn near impossible to find a LB or Safety that can both cover and tackle at a reasonable level. The ones that can usually get drafted high. Get guys that can tackle on the back end and invest in players that can put heat on the QB.

After missing the playoffs, Jay Gruden is making big changes in Washington.

Gruden is firing his entire defensive coaching staff, Jason LaCanfora of CBS reports.

The firing of defensive coordinator Joe Barry comes as no surprise, given Washington’s defensive struggles this season both against the pass and against the run. Barry spent two seasons as the defensive coordinator in Washington and did not see improvement in the unit.

We knew the D sucked the day the current GM walked in the door. The O didn't suck. Obvious first step to most is fix the D without screwing up the O. Starting the season with a depth chart of Flynn, Pryor and McGloin at QB screwed up the O.

Breaking News

After going 12-4 and making the playoffs, Jack Del Rio aka The Taco is making BIG changes in Oakland.

Taco is firing his entire defensive staff including Ken Norton, Jr. who has been a disaster.

Just sayin'.
