2017 Free agents

I'd take Barkley if he doesn't resign with the Bears. He actually looked competent in his starts.
I didn't say his name thinking he's staying in Chicago and will start next year.

I disagree, Red has made some huge moves the last couple of years that have really paid off, e.g. KO, Hudson. I see no reason he doesn't do that on the dline this year.

Granted Smith, Nelson haven't been worth the money, but I think Red really sees the value of going after young FAs now.

He could, absolutely. I just don't think he will because of the pending contracts that Mack And Carr are gonna get. Not sure what the cap will look like after those extensions are done.

As long as we find a descent Vet back up. I could be happy with their 1st 3rd rounder.

And no keeping McCloin doesn't count as a descent backup. Not many real options at this time from the looks of it though.

Maybe Ponder... Again err Cassell???
Damn maybe we just keep Cookie the Rookie.
Red's not trading Cook until (a) Cook puts down some good tape and (b) Red drafts another back-up he likes. To me, that means any trade is two years away (Cook flying solo next year as the back-up; Red drafting another QB in 2018; Red trading Cook after the 2018 season).

10 interceptions in 2 games...o_O

Not saying he doesn't have warts but he didn't exactly have a lot to work with on that Bears team...other than the rookie RB. Still, it looked like he could at least hold down the fort on a good team if the starter went down.

Agreed. If you trade Cook, what's your alternative? A washed up backup?

Not saying that he would necessarily trade him away, but if the right offer is there, you take it and draft another QB that fits our offense. McGloin can stay for a minimum or leave, doesn't really matter. Groom the rookie to be the backup to Carr. If McGloin leaves, sign a vet backup to hold the clipboard in his place.

Agreed take what you can get when you can get it. If a team gives you a good offer, I'd say 3rd or better you have to take it. No guarantee that the following year a team will give up the same offer, and holding out for more will just leave us empty handed when he hits FA. Sometimes the best offer is just getting an offer at all.

Trade a '16 4th round pick (which you traded up for to get) for a '17 3rd round pick (to, what, use that pick on a rookie QB?), no thanks. You squat on Cook until you get a 1st or 2nd round pick, or, if it's the last year of his contract, then, but only then, something less but better than the compensation pick you'd expect if he were to leave in FA.

Take what you can get when you can get it. 3rd might not be great but if say it was pick 3.1 it's still a descent turn on a 4th and late 5th. Seems like trade value would be good. Yes that means you are looking for another back up. But I think a Vet backup with some experience as a starter would be nice. That list though doesn't really look good for backups quite yet.

"McGloin would command a bigger contract and, surely, expect to compete for the starting job next season, if not in Oakland then somewhere else in the NFL."

If not in Oakland? Come on bro...

He could start in Cleveland

I want a blow-the-top-off #2 WR (to play #3) to complement Cooper and Crabby, not a #3 WR who might struggle as a #2 if Crabby or Cooper get injured. In upgrading Seth, let's really upgrade.

It's fun watching y'all catch up to me, slow as y'all are to do it.
