I don't think Reggie deferred to JDR willingly. JDR was Mark's pick as HC and got preferred treatment until Gruden was a legitimate possibility. Reggie burned his bridge after DA failed miserably but I don't think Mark wanted to fire both at once and Carr and Mack looked promising enough after 2014 to save Reggie's job.

Mark meddles more than he lets on. He talked so much about Ruggs being the next Branch I knew that was our pick.
