The Las Vegas Raiders/STADIUM Thread

The Japanese bank is involved with the group trying to keep the Raiders in Oakland. If Vegas falls through, Mark will need to seriously consider Lott's group as partners.
If there was any doubt that Lott's arrangement in Oakland was a total and complete joke, the emergence of the Japanese "bank" is pretty much the exclamation point.

If Mark manages to completely blow the Vegas deal, I actually think all relocation eyeballs will turn to the joke of a situation going on with the Chargers. If they can't sell out their 318-seat auditorium in Orange County (for the non-Raider games), and Vegas is still committed to bringing in a football team not associated with anybody by the name of Davis, I wouldn't rule out the possibility of the Chargers and Raiders swapping spots in LA and Vegas, respectively.... I just don't see the NFL leaving $750 million on the table.... and I don't see the NFL allowing a team in LA that can't sell more than a couple thousand tickets on a Sunday....

I'd be so pissed if I was a Dolt fan. Not only did Spanos bolt to LA, but if they want to renew season tickets, it will cost them more for seats closer the endzone, as Spanos tries to generate more gate revenue from a smaller stadium.

Because he can't concede anything to Adelson... that's the point. That would put Adelson in a position of either a stadium owner / lessor to an NFL franchise or part owner of the team - neither of which is acceptable to the league. The only way the league would allow Adelson to be a part of the project is if he is getting all of his return revenues from the alternative (non-NFL) income streams that would come in from the stadium (UNLV games, concerts, soccer, etc). Its Adelson that is demanding more, which is a non-starter with the league (not Mark).

Well it's really a fine line but ultimately Mark should have known what parameters the NFL set before he went in with guns blaring like his old man would have. Something just doesn't make sense here.

Agree. MD, Badain, or other Raider staff should have handled communications with Adelson in a much better way. Its certainly understandable not to be able to come to agreement with Adelson on a deal that was acceptable to both sides, but to have handled the communications / negotiations in a way that apparently has torked Adelson off to the point where he is going to impede others like Goldman Sachs from getting involved in the project is pretty foolish. You just don't piss away an ally with that much power / influence like that. Ultimately bringing an NFL franchise especially one that has global appeal like the Raider brand to LV would be a huge win and ultimately a major financial coup for Adelson, the city, as well as his other casino friends; you would think that there should be a win-win solution that Adelson could have at least helped push forward even if he wasn't going to be a primary investor. Then again, who knows... it wouldn't be the first time that egos got in the way of something that should get done.

This is and always has been the problem.

Davis has ZERO business experience. He has ZERO negotiating experience. He has ZERO common sense.

He's trying to negotiate with a guy who's worth close to $30 Billion who's been there, done that and has chewed up and spit out much more savvy people than Davis and it's just a total mismatch. What was he thinking. Desperation to be sure.

This ins't going to end well for Davis I'm afraid!

Perhaps. It's a logical thought. In fact, it was likely Mark's objective or preferred outcome if he could not reach a deal with Adelson, which I assume is why it didn't happen.

Adelson didn't want Mark to have that leverage--that alternative. Adelson's leverage was blowing up the deal if Adelson did not get what he wanted. I just think this MD bashing is naive. This went down precisely how Adleson wanted it to go down if he was out (IMO).

Another person drinking Adleson's Koolaid. Mark's business experience or lack thereof contributed to this mess, no doubt. I'm sure it influenced how Adleson dealt with him; respect is important in high stakes negotiations. But all this hand wrining over Mark only empowers jerks like Adelson. He's the guy who pulled the plug.

Could very well be... like I said, egos often get in the way of common sense and don't doubt that Adelson would have a massive one. But would seem naïve for him to think that he could buy his way into a major sports franchise given his gambling business. Then again given his almost $30 billion, I'm sure he is used to getting anything that he wants.

Adelson helped get Trump elected. Got politicians to pony us $750M. Was invited by Kraft to the SB. Yep, he's used to getting what he wants. But I don't think it is ego. I think it is business. Adelson went nuclear on Mark to dry up any support for the deal without him. Mark probably found himself in short supply of friends after that.
