The Las Vegas Raiders/STADIUM Thread

A deal in principal then whatever lol. Adelson is no choir boy but from everything I've heard and read about the situation is that Davis thought he could pull a fast one. C'mon man
Not surprising. Everything you've read and heard was published, leaked or put out by Adelson's PR machine and cronies. Apparently they pulled a fast one. ;)

The Japanese bank is involved with the group trying to keep the Raiders in Oakland. If Vegas falls through, Mark will need to seriously consider Lott's group as partners.

Not only that, they aren't a bank. They're a telecommunications company.

Mark has no one but himslef to blame now for this mess when he had an iron clad deal on the table from Adelson.
The league has basically said that there would be no deal that would be approved that included a casino ownership stake in either the team / franchise or the stadium itself. So not sure how Mark tried to "pull a fast one". There could have been a deal with Adelson playing the role of a benevolent contributor to the project as initially reported (which we all knew was BS), but when it came out that he was looking for specific entitlement to certain revenue streams (as an owner would), that pig just had no chance to fly... Yes, Adelson's henchmen are looking to lay blame at the feet of Davis, but MD's hands are tied on this. And none of us know whether MD was promising something to Adelson that he ultimately couldn't provide per the league or whether it was Adelson who was looking to find a backdoor route to NFL franchise ownership by first offering to back the project and later adding the strings...

Yes we know this now, and nothing was going to get done without the leagues blessing, so if Mark went in knowing this then he's just as culpable. On top of everything which I've heard from neutral observers was that Mark was not willing to concede anything.

So basically this was a clusterfugg from the get go

Because he can't concede anything to Adelson... that's the point. That would put Adelson in a position of either a stadium owner / lessor to an NFL franchise or part owner of the team - neither of which is acceptable to the league. The only way the league would allow Adelson to be a part of the project is if he is getting all of his return revenues from the alternative (non-NFL) income streams that would come in from the stadium (UNLV games, concerts, soccer, etc). Its Adelson that is demanding more, which is a non-starter with the league (not Mark).

And Mark didn't know the NFL's stance on Casino owners before he jumped in bed with Adelson?

The way some of you guys paint MD as this poor saint is ridiculous. He's as much of a weasel as anybody involved with this whole thing.

None of us know what the "deal" was, which led Adelson to use his clout to get that state to pledge $750M for a new stadium. From "neutral observers" (before shit hit the fan), Adelson was doing this on the come. I doubt very much that Mark "was not willing to concede anything." He was just not willing to do what Adelson demanded after $750M was pledged by the state. Big difference.

:wtf1:

Not sure there was any other way to get the state to pledge $750M. And Adelson certainly thought there was reason to believe he could get what he wanted from the NFL and Mark after he secured $750M in public funds.

Not sure that anyone is a villian or a weasel. Just when push came to shove, the NFL and/or Mark refused to do what Adelson wanted. He then threw a hissy fit.

Whether it is a Japanese bank, or Portuguese one (I'm Portuguese), they are going to try and fuck him over.

Banks have money and try to screw people? Shut the front door.

And forget about return on investment.Anyone who puts up some money is going to want something.A piece of the team. The concessions or signage. Some kind of assurances. No surprise.

If I pulled the posts (no I'm not) I could find some discussion about what Sheldon's angle was.We knew he wanted some part somehow.

So either Mark thought no big deal.Or Sheldon just wanted too much.Either way dude is naive at best.Stubborn and dump at worst.

I can't see him making any kind of good impression on a bunch of Japanese businessmen either. They'll see the overhead projecter and die laughing.

The Adelson angle was problematic from the start. Even if the other owners- or enough of them- could overlook the perceived risk of any professional team playing in a city in which the primary industry is gambling, there would still be other issues. For all its problems, the NFL does seem to conduct serious due diligence into potential owners. First, they have to have money- see Kroenke, Khan, etc...
Second, that very select group wants guys who play nice with the other guys. This is important because the NFL is essentially a monopoly- and successful in part because it can act as a monopoly. So long as a bunch of billionaires play nice with each other, they all win. That's why a moron like Goodell is there- he's the very well paid pinata for these guys. He takes the licks publicly, they make money behind the scenes. Flame throwers aren't welcome in that club because a guy like Cuban isn't afraid to rock that boat. Look around and there are no owners in the NFL who really act like Al did, or Cuban does. Some are incompetent dipshits, but few challenge the NFL directly.

Here's where Mark's relationship with Adelson would cause problems. First, Adelson is a massive prick. He's one of the most litigious assholes out there, and if his expectation was to put up money in order to own a large or eventually significant piece of the Raiders, I'd bet a number of owners would say no way because they don't want him at their table. He's richer that all but a few, and doesn't give a shit who he pisses off.

Second, as recently as three or four years ago, the DOJ was looking into Adelson's business dealings for possible violations of the federal law relating to foreign corruption. Nothing came of those, but that's the kind of red-flag that probably would kill any chance of the Raiders moving to LV, if Adelson was getting a piece of the team. No league would risk that type of hit, especially after the debacle with Haslem and his very well publicized Flying J scandal.

TL: DR version: Not sure the move would've ever been approved even if Adelson put up the cash, and Mark is back at square one. Either NFL kicks in real money when they realize that a stadium doesn't equal success (See Chargers/Rams in 2019), or Mark finds other sources of cash.

Great post! Sounds like Deadringer (Adelson)...

I secretly hope Mark sells to Mark Cuban. For no other reason than he will certainly stir shit up if he felt the need to.

Not all banks try to screw people. Many banks have great relationships with businessmen, with hopes of continued business with them. Banks also want to protect their interests.

Mark and his dad have been fighting and moving way more than competent businessmen. They come across as easy prey...as people who have no clue...as a one time deal.

Luxury suites and other money making are good, but you have to be able to prove that you can sell them. Our fan base is in Oakland, and we had trouble filling seats for many years. Are we suddenly going to find a new population of Raider fans who have been hiding in Las Vegas? How about companies who are willing to spend money on luxury suites? They are going to be coming from the bay area every weekend to justify the price they paid for them.

Mark is a dumb motherfucker. He needs to put the brand out there. Marketing 101..Hello?? This fool is waiting around with his thumb up his ass. He needs to call the Giants, A's, Warriors and sharks owners to see how it's done. What an idiot. So much money is in the bay area
