Post draft thoughts/breakdown

I don't like it. It's a cluster fuck. If the first rounder doesn't go to jail we might be able to hang our hat on him.

I have been wrong before. I hope I am about this draft.

Mailbag from JustBlogBaby, does a good job of taking and answering questions (obviously from a glass-half-full POV), including:

1. 2 immediate, 4 potential starters (Conley, Obi, Vanderdoes, Lee);

2. Ward still sucks despite what the coaches are saying, Calhoun has a better chance to impact the D (ugh);

3. Zamora's raw but a potential beast;

4. McGill's likely gone with Luani taking his spot; Autry's at risk if Hester develops quicker than expected; but Nelson's likely safe and will help teach Obi the NFL game;

:pound:

Like Red's odds. He seems to have inside information on Conley. Just hope the DA in Cleveland's a dude and OSU grad. I'm guessing Obi's gonna have specialized tasks that get him on the field early. Vandy already lost the weight. He needs to tightened his ass up, get stronger and learn how to play against men in the NFL, who are going to treat his goofy looking ass poorly. Got nothing on the LT with the eye-patch, except he's playing for the right team and right OL coach.
I've heard that a normal teams security team is very competent. No doubt they worked extra hours to determine what happened

I watched Lees Combine performance. He does look stiff. Wouldn't trust him in 3rd downs in coverage

sure hope so on McGill, dude was trash from day one. One of the only picks I really researched and came away saying I just don't see it happening ever. We need Nelson, McGill offers nothing of value. I don't know how anyone outside of the building has any insight into the development of Ward or Calhoun. They both sucked on the field so... I anticipate Ward to make the bigger step forward given they knew he was going to be raw. Calhoun just seemed like he wasn't as good as advertised.

Another reason for Vanderoos development = DL coach Franklin riding his a$s. Franklin won't tolerate laziness

I'm guessing Red was done researching Conley and loved the kid before the news, then did a ton of further research to confirm/debunk the reports. I'm guessing he couldn't believe what was being reported after already researching the kid. My hope is Red didn't have tunnel vision and the kid is innocent--not just not guilty.

Unless he's blitzing or dropping into show zones. PFF had college QB's with a 85.0 rating throwing to his coverage responsibility. That likely doesn't bode well at the next level.

Does anyone feel that, if our NT are no longer 2-gaping as a staple diet, but are trying to penetrate and disrupt, that Ellis might perform better in this role? Or will he be brought in when we want to 2-gap while Vandy will be asked to do both?

To be fair, Calhoun was transitioning to OLB after playing DE his entire collegiate career. Lots of dudes struggle to make that change. I can see him making progress this year. Ward just seems useless.

The CBA didn't do these projects any favors... there's just not enough practice time for these guys. I would think that a guy with actual production in college (Calhoun) would stand a better chance of making the leap than a guy like Ward.
