Post Browns game thread......oh Fuck It!

Might be the end of Penn overall. Does make me nervous. Wish we'd have kept sharpe. Hope clemmings and Murray are up to being backups

Brandon Thorn (@VeteranScout) breaks down Kolton Miller: The Pass Blocker vs Cleveland

Spoiler: Not exactly positive

I charted every Kolton Miller pass pro rep vs. Cleveland minus screens. 33 were against Myles Garrett; 6 with chip help, 5 with inside tight end alignment help. False step hindered his ability to be in position to anchor, got walked back 6x. Beat a few other times:

Not a good game, but Garrett is phenomenal and it was just his 4th career start, so still being patient with his outlook. I don't think he has been very good overall (adequate) but better than his college film indicated. Here are the rest of his pass pro reps vs. everyone else:

Myles Garrett the run-defender is very good. Processing, play strength, size/length/AA. Uses all of his special traits to wreck blocking schemes:

"Rookie left tackle Kolton Miller struggled mightily against Myles Garrett’s bull rush in the first half. The Raiders didn’t give him much help throughout the game and he kept getting pushed into Carr’s lap. In the second half, Miller wasn’t perfect, but he played much better by adjusting his technique, which is all you can ask from a rookie tackle going against one of the league’s premier pass rushers.

After the game, I asked Miller how he adjusted to Garrett’s pass rush. He said that he stayed lower, put more weight on his post (inside) foot, and “tried not to open up as much.” When you’re dealing with speed, which Garrett has a lot of as well, it’s tempting to open up too quickly. But doing so eliminates a blocker’s base and makes him susceptible to being overpowered.

On Nelson’s touchdown, Miller barely got a chip from receiver Seth Roberts. You could see how heavy his step is with his inside foot, which means he has more weight on that foot. This was integral for him stopping Garrett’s attempt to rip inside of him. Garrett didn’t get anywhere near Carr on this play and Carr had enough time and space to throw the strike to Nelson.

After the Raiders turned the ball over on downs in the red zone with 1:54 left, it looked like half the stadium cleared out. It looked like another game was going to end in another fourth-quarter loss. But the Raiders defense got the ball back to Carr with 1:28 left the game and he drove the ball to the Browns 7-yard line with 30 seconds remaining."

Fuck its ridiculous that we have drafted 2 early safeties and its still such a glaring weakness.
And now people think Earl Thomas is the answer? LOL... broke his leg for the second time. Vet min contract? Reggie?

Agree, should have kept Sharpe and maybe Ware as well. I think both have a higher likelihood of being able to play at a reasonable NFL level than either Clemmings or Murray. And as far as Penn goes, this is exactly why I was hoping that we could peddle him off to someone... 35 year old, 330 lb OL coming off a Lisfranc injury just isn't a good $10 mil investment; very low chance that he was going to make it through the season healthy. Dare I say (without naming names), but we could have used that $$ better elsewhere...

Blessing in disguise, maybe. Given Gruden's obsession with vets, Parker might have been stuck on the bench.

He’s shown so far in this stint, if the younger guys can play, they are on the field. We have five rookies starting or getting serious snaps. Miller and Hurst may be leading all rookies on both sides of the ball in snaps. Crazy. He was never like that.

I don’t think he’s had a tram as devoid of talent on that side of tha ball as this one. Who else he gonna play?
