O-Line Thread

Gruden said Kolton is still playing hurt and Parker had his best game. I honestly barely watched and didn't key in specifically on anyone so I don't have a personal opinion on it. I noticed Kolton's guy get a sack when Carr stood in the pocket for like 5 seconds.

I was wrong on one part of the first sack when I bitched in the game thread.

Yes it was a stunt but both guys got free and sacked Carr lol. Miller is supposed to block one of them at least haha. Maybe he doesnt get official credit or only a half sack or whatever spit shine we put on it.

These two tackles don't give me the warm and fuzzies is all. Its not like we are getting Conklin/Lewan out there.

Usually the top rookies when I've flipped through sack stats give up like 5 or 8 or something. Not one per game and trending higher.

I see more of a Garret Bolles type player but I really hope its all injury...

I don't know if Miller is going to be any good but he's way tougher than I expected him to be.
Yeah, I give him that at least. It's a bummer he's been playing on a banged up knee most of the year. I really have no clue what kind of player he is. I like what I saw when he was healthy but he definitely needs to get his ass in the weight room this offseason. He needs to hook up with Jared Veldheer's trainer and turn his ass into the Hulk.

Is Lewan doing any good? I just remember the Ravens getting 11 sacks on Mariota in like one game and they are in the top 10 in sacks allowed. I'm not trying to say Lewan is the cause, I have no idea I don't watch then at all. Just curious if he's doing well.

Because that turned out well for him. Maybe we should hook him up with a guy who can actually play tackle instead of just look like he should be able to play tackle.

2 sacks in 9 games that I can see...

Him and Conklin have missed some games this year but they are credited with 3 sacks given up together so someone else must be at fault there lol.

Lewan was awesome in 2017 and he's at a PFF 76 whatever the hell that means.

Lets not downplay Taylor Lewan to try and prop up Kolton Miller lol.

I'm not, propping up your boy.

Just curious if Lewan is doing what he's supposed to. You reference him quite often, and I see that the Titans have given up some sacks lately. Don't try and read too much into it.

I’ve referenced Lewan and Conklin because that should be the caliber of first round tackle you expect to get in the top 15.

I'm just saying strength is something he needs to work on. His biggest weakness is the bull rush. It's not technique, it's strength. A good trainer can help fix that in an offseason.

Think Lewan has been a little nicked up. 76 is a good rating. Especially with a QB that holds the ball a little longer than most.

Wonder if we break another record for underclassmen.

We had a record 106 last year. Funny thing though roughly 35-40 of those underclassmen went undrafted.

I almost want to put a 007 guarantee on it.

It should increase every year until they fix the system.

What's wrong with the system?

I could go on and on about the student-athlete pay or the shady back door dealings in the NCAA but it just generates heat and anger.

I probably have a different opinion on the subject than most.

I'd rather there was a minor league system like the MLB so kids don't have to pretend to go to class and have a choice. Instead of taking knitting 101 for 3 years before collecting a real paycheck not from a booster.

I added a little edit to my post above, but long story short I wish there was a minor league system in place.

Some poor kid from Alabama who barely graduated highschool and writes at a 7th grade level being faked through university and paid under the table is all just bullshit and wasting time. He's 6-5 275 and runs a 4.7 so he gets a full ride to Alabama!

Many will still want an education and take classes seriously but some just have football as their one chance to get out of the hood. I'd like them to get the bullshit out of the way.

And @alteredst8 I honestly don't know how it would work or if its feasible, but I think Ed Oliver is the perfect example or say Zion Williamson the Duke basketball phenom.

Oliver essentially declared as a sophomore? Guys are skipping bowl games and post season events. Why do we have to go through all the bullshit?

I mean do we honestly think Ed Oliver took his schooling seriously with the traveling, training, practice and preparing all year for the draft? We will never know but I bet he barely stepped foot in a classroom all season and everything was massaged by the board or whoever to make it OK. Whats the fucking point? He knew he was gonna be a first round draft pick 3 years ago as a top recruit.

Basketball is even worse with the one and done phenoms every year. Why even dick around? It makes no sense to me. I forget which NBA player said his parents were getting spotted by a booster 5-10 k a month and he essentially received a signing bonus for choosing like North Carolina over Kentucky.

Its all so corrupt just make a minor league system that kids can develop in, learn how to prepare, practice, eat and train. Learn relevant NFL skills (Look at the college game with tackles not even on the same planet when they enter the league) You could add drug tests, have a coach grooming system and have an organization looking out for the player not faking grades and attendance records. Quality coaches, quality doctors, they learn how to travel and prepare etc.

Who knows, like I said my opinion is likely different.

Interesting choice of examples because both dudes are guys that could really flop as pros because of their odd physical makeup. I agree with you in general but I’d say Oliver and Williamson probably are two players that should hedge their bets with an education. At the end of the day people should be free to make their own decisions and live with the consequences but I think the net result might actually end up hurting players more than helping.

Anyone could flop as a pro.

Both are legit top prospects that will go super early no matter the drama or side crap coming around the bend.

School was secondary to them and both are going through the motions being in the NCAA right now.

I could spend an hour finding some amazing example but those were guys that are on peoples brains right now.
