Suprise Pick Coming In Top Ten?
Posted by Mike Florio on April 24, 2009, 1:37 p.m. EDT

There’s chatter in league circles that a surprise pick could be made in the top ten of the 2009 draft.

Of course, that could be said in any given year.

But one source connected to one of the teams picking in the top ten thinks that an eyebrow-raising pick could be coming, given the names that currently are expected to be called at the top of the draft.

We’ve got a weird feeling that the surprise could be Percy Harvin to the Raiders at No. 7.

Remember this — 31 teams can scream “no way in hell” from the tops of their lung. But if only one says “yes” in round one, then the player is a first-round pick.

Harvin fits the Raiders profile.

Receiver. Fast. Potentially explosive. Perceived bad boy.

But NFLN’s Mike Mayock recently told Dan Patrick that Harvin has top-ten talent. And one team that possibly wouldn’t care about a little weed and/or a lot of attitude is the Raiders.

Let's be honest would this surprise us if AL did this??? Not me....I like Harvin just don't think I would do this I would trade with the Pats and Take him later then.....

It's weird. A friend of mine discussed this as a "what if" yesterday. Who knows, Harvin wouldn't make me mad, but not at #7. We NEED someone to help with the DL or DE at 7.

It really doesn't fit.

We have avoided character concerns going back to Taj Hawthorne, and we sure didn't reach for him. You can argue McFadden, I suppose.

When looking at the Raiders history, there hasn't really been the 'Raider picks' that these talking heads have been yakking about.

And Florio is a douchebag with no Raider insight.

No

Way.

Harvin is neither a WR (though he may become one), nor a RB (not likely to survive in the NFL as one). We already have Darren MCFadden to cause all kinds of matchup problems as he gets used in creative ways. With all the needs that there are on this team that could be addressed with the #7 overall pick, ain't no way a guy who could esaily drop into the second round goes at #7.

Say what you want about Al Davis and ayadda yadda yadda, Tom Cable will be in that room, too, and he will argue every which way he can for several other players, including one of the top 4 tackles, than Harvin.

Blurp from Peter King's column FWIW

3. I think the Raiders are seriously considering Darrius Heyward-Bey or Jeremy Maclin at seven, which makes sense because they're the fastest high-profile players in the draft. I hear Raider coach Tom Cable was on the phone with Maclin last night.

I HOPE IT'S NOT DHB. I like Crabtree, Maclin or Harvin.......but would rather see us make that trade back!

Well I absolutely hate this thread. :banghead:

Yeah, when did we get Ty Mongomery? Harvin is the next Montgomery. A neither nor kinda guy.

This seems to be gaining steam, I don't know man. Harvin??? I don't know about that. :nono:

I'd rather have Harvin than Bey. You just can't draft a guy #7 who didn't produce in college. I agree with the critisism about Bey's lack of production.

That said, I'd much rather have Monroe or A. Smith, even Raji. Does this mean Crabtree's out? I guess so.

I think I'm going to be upset tommorrow.

i think Bey's lack of production has more to do with playing in a legitimate resemblance of a pro-style offense with a dog shit OLine and QB
