I'm watching NFLN and Mayock thinks this guy is going to run a 4.5 40, and jump 40+ inches. At 6'7", 260 lbs, is there any way we don't take this guy if that all pans out?

What do you guys think? What do you know?

I like him more than most.

A couple good discussions about him in this forum.

Everybody dogged his senior year, but he had 8 or 9 sacks and 15 TFL's...He's a specimen for sure.

I predicted he'll go top 25 a while back, and we won't sniff him in round two.

I saw him play a couple of times late in the season and he did absolutely nothing.

Another Vernon Gholston?

Really?...would you mind pointing me in the right direction? I've searched some threads with no luck.

Yeah I agree. I've read some reviews that say he has no heart, no motor... and Mayock seems to agree that he's never seen him dominate in the 8-10 game films he's viewed, but there's no way a guy with those measurables at the DE position is getting out of the 1st round IMO.

He has size and skills and some production. But he isnt playing like a guy who has all those tools. He has an average skill set IMO. Cant play the run i hear. I dont hate him but dont let the Mario Williams clone fool you!

If he had a normal neck he would only be 6'2 and would be looked at as a second rounder.

Anyone catch his measurables and times and stuff?

6-7 265, 4.7 forty.

Looked smooth in drills.

He did nothing but help himself today. Some Mario Williams comparisons, as far as his physical attributes today by Gruden and Mayock.

He's Mayock's whipping boy this year... He's done everything short of outright call him a pussy... I gotta a say though, some of that film was pretty damning as far as effort level goes... Looked great in drills though...

He is a fine prospect. But just a risky pick. A luxury for very good teams IMO. He will go late Rnd 1.

I like the Kiwanuka comparisons I've heard on a couple forums. Tall and lanky with good agility and pass rush moves.

I remember when Kiwi was being whipped a little from some experts, and I think I even remember seeing HB or someone at KFFL say "Watch him go to a good team late in round one"

He ends up going to a good team with good coaching, and now he's a premier pass rusher on a contending team.

In the end, he'll probably slide a little based on the game film, but I truly think its a tossup whether he has the switch come on or not. And if the switch comes on, he's a Pro Bowler.

Now, having the flexibility to take a chance on a "tossup" is tough and a luxury we dont have.

Kiwanuka led his team in tackles and sacks tho. Im not trying to pile on M.Johnson or anything but Kiwanuka was a solid run stopper too.

Mike Johnson reminds me of Calias Campell, last years perfectly sized DE. You want him to be better than he is because he fits the mold. Johnson has the frame of a basketball player in some ways. He needs to add some muscle. Maybin and Johnson are both going to take some time in the weight room and on the practice field.

Kiwi had 9.5 sacks and 15TFL's to go with 49 tackles as a senior, Johnson had 9 sacks, 17.5 TFL's and 29 tackles as a senior.

Both are tall and lanky. The same weight. Both ran 4.7 at the combine. 35 inch arms.

I think the comparison is a good one talent-wise, although Kiwi had a more decorated career in college.

I agree. Not a bad comparison but 20 plus tackles would make him a better run defender. And thats my major knock on Johnson. Can he play all three downs b/c i think Kiwanuka can. They moved him to OLB at one point.

What's interesting to me about Johnson is my grade for him depends significantly upon the team that drafts him. If he can get the right coaches, scheme, and locker room around him he could be great. So the way I look at Johnson is he's a far better player if drafted by a team like the Tennessee Titans than he is by a team like the Raiders or Bengals.

True dat. Really a tough call with some of these DE/OLB's. They seem to excel in these controlled environments but put them up against some serious competition and you see a much different picture. I see a lot of bust potential here.

I'm really intrigued by HB's love child Jarron Gilbert. Ran a 4.87 40 which is pretty impressive for a guy near 290 lbs. He's probably better suited for our four man front than some of the top guys on the board who better project as 3-4 OLB's in the NFL. Plus we won't have to risk a #1 pick on him. We'd have to seriously consider him with our second pick IMO.

Yeah that 40 time is going bump him up near our pick. I think M.Johnson could succeed in a system like what INDY does with Mathis and Freeney.
