I seriously doubt that he killed himself. As you mentioned, he was a narcissist and thought the world revolved around him, which therefore would get him out of trouble. He had dirt on a LOT of powerful people, none of them wanting that dirt to get out. I think he had gone to court a decade before and got off on a plea deal. IIRC, his security detail and suicide watch was brought down to nil and I believe the cameras in his areas had a mystery "glitch" that night.

Apparently, a lot of the measures and policies were violated. AG Barr was in charge of the investigation and it was basically blown off as "a perfect storm of screw-ups". In other words, he was told to bury it, so those in danger of being exposed were safe.

There was certainly a lot of curious circumstances around his death.

Cheers. No, I'm not a royalist either. Don't know many people who are really, although I'm not a republican either in terms of the constitutional head of state. The British separation between government and 'official' head of state works quite well in practice I think. But that pragmatic reason is my only justification for the monarch as head of state.

Not sure about the ££ for tourism - I think that's just a monarchist argument. And I don't think the Commonwealth gives a fuck. I lived in Canada for five years and in the whole time I was there, no-one gave the monarchy a second thought, despite the grumpy old cow being on their bank notes.

Disagree - the Commonwealth as an institution wants to have the Queen as head otherwise why exist. Saw a documentary while back which showed how she kept the Commonwealth together when some countries wanted out.
When Charles takes over expect that will change.

As for £££ for tourism as a Londoner I know the value of Buckingham Palace/Windsor/Tower to attract tourists -
as an example we were in a lift in New Orleans and a family heard our accents & asked where we from .
When said London the first thing they asked and I quote "Have you seen the family? "
Had no idea what they meant but turned out they meant the royal family and that's what they associate with London .

They were from Alabama so we aren't exactly talking mainstream big city USA ( no offence to any Alabamians if you are reading !)

I honestly think the idea of the Commonwealth countries all wanting the Queen to hold them together in some coherent organisation is a myth royalists in Britain tell themselves. Most countries in it are modern functioning democracies far more interested in their regional neighbours and international organisations like UN than the ceremonial pish like the Commonwealth. They'll be polite about it and all, but it's nothing to them. Maybe Canadians on here like #RaiderNorth can comment, but as I say, when I lived there no-one had any real perception or interest in the Commonwealth. I don't think it would be missed. I suspect India and the African countries would lose even less sleep.

Maybe you're right on the tourism thing, though of course we'd still have the heritage and the palaces and castles without the Royal Family. Better access to them too. But as #Byron2112 said, it's what Britain's known for, so we shouldn't kick against that. Right enough, when I was working in NY State a few years back and they asked about the Queen and I mentioned I had showed her round my workplace when her and Philip had visited, they got all giddy and royalist on me. So maybe you're right and we should leave well alone.

I'll put the guillotine back in the shed.

I wouldn’t believe Alan D for a hot minute. That guy is paid to lie for a living. You have to be a special kind of prick to be a defense attorney. Think of all the other powerful people that Epstein probably dealt with that aren’t named. Manly middle eastern royalty. They love shit like that. Those people probably have the connections to have Epstein sacked.

I love good defense attorneys. They keep the power of the state in check.

Finally watched the movie “Yesterday.”

I know, I know.... you’re all too cool for that. Anyway, get your girl and some popcorn and watch it. It’s light-hearted and cute. I liked it.

That's the one where the guy wakes up and is the only one that knows all the Beatles songs, right? It's on my list to watch. Looks pretty decent, plus it's the Beatles.

That’s the one! It’s funny.

HBO exec Francesca Orsi says the Targaryen prequel series 'House of the Dragon' will have a massive budget right off the bat compared to early #GameOfThrones seasons '$50M [per season] would never fly for what we are trying to do. We are going big'

It’s a show coming on Netflix. There’s an unrelated video game with the same title from a few years back though.

Maybe I linked a trailer from that by accident.

Here is the official trailer:

So coming out sometime in June but apparently Netflix still hasn’t given an official date. They usually release new shows on Friday though so probably either this Friday or next.

What I’ve gathered from some dude on YouTube is that it’s 6 half hour episodes aimed at G1 fans and supposedly pretty dark. Was hoping for more run time but I suppose it’s basically movie length put together. That’s how it was sold anyway.

They have heard my pleas and my prayers have been answered!
