Jack with the stink eye

Andy Reid says he has no issue with Jack Del Rio

An awkward moment unfolded between Chiefs coach Andy Reid and Raiders coach Jack Del Rio after Thursday night’s game between the two teams. Reid gave Del Rio a glancing pat on the shoulder; Del Rio responded with an icy glare.

So is there a problem between the two men?

“Not at all,” Reid told reporters on Friday. “Jack and I are actually good friends, and I know people don’t like to hear that ’cause it’s the Raiders, but not at all. I know the picture – when we were leaving — I just patted him on the shoulder after we shook hands. There was nothing there, no.”

Some have speculated that an issue has emerged because Del Rio called Reid’s offense “gimmicky” after the Chiefs beat the Raiders in Oakland earlier in the year.

“I don’t worry about all that,” Reid said. “I just worry about the score of the game. Anybody can say anything that they want to say. I’m good as long as we’re taking care of business there.”

The Chiefs have indeed taken care of business. And the best news is that many seem to presume they won’t continue to take care of business. Which makes it easy for Reid to keep his players from getting complacent, and easy for Reid to keep them properly motivated to continue to prove those who aren’t praising them wrong.

JDR looks pissed. Put on a good face on at his presser, but my guess is that, yes, there will be some changes.

Collinsworth mentioned during the game that he was told Howard would not be left on his own against Houston. Wrong. With a timeout left on the last drive, why not run the fucking ball on 3rd down...not like Murray gets stopped. Whole game like that.

And is Eric Berry really the scariest guy Carr ever faced? Every single RZ throw was outside, and few passes went even to intermediate depth between the hashes.

And not pounding the run the entire second half... that stink-eye JDR appears to be giving Reid is nothing to what Hudson and Penn gave Musgrave.

Be interesting to see what the reporters suss out about this, what the Raiders report directly or let leak (or by changing depth charts but not saying anything else), and what just appears in SD.

Given Cowser's play on ST, gonna be hard to shelve him on the PS again.

He probably is. I took a while to get over the game, and I'm just a fan. I still can't think about it without getting angry. That doesn't mean that he is pissed at Andy.

I'm going to say something controversial. This is a good loss for the Raiders. It's a nice little wakeup call that they are not invincible. They had a nice little streak going, pulling some magic out every single game. But this game is a reminder that the magic is from hard work and playing better than the other guy. The Raiders didn't play better than the other guy last night. And Carr wasn't able to will the team to victory. Make these guys hungry to fight again.

You saw how the defense picked up and fought when they weren't getting the support from the offense in the 2nd half? Maybe this will get the whole team to go out there with fire for the rest of the season. Let's see what happens about SD in 10 days.

Like what?

At a minimum, Roberts' snaps go down with either Holmes or Holten making up the difference. And the run game will see more carries every quarter, like in a 4 minute drill or goal to go not throwing on first down, and surely not 2 of 3 downs. No team left can stop the run but their Os can score.

Who can spot the problem here, listing every Raider who has caught a pass? First number is targets, second number is receptions.

Murray: 39/29
Richard: 30/21
Washington: 17/12
Olawale: 12/10
Holten: 2/2
Cooper: 113/72
Jones: 4/4
Crabtree: 119/71
Roberts: 68/33
Walford: 44/29
Rivera: 20/15
Holmes:18/10
Smith: 6/6
Penn: 1/1

Hint: the only guy who has caught fewer than half the balls thrown his way. I'm not saying cut the kid, but right now we need to be playing the players who produce.

And as @Madturk suggested, IR Calhoun if it allows Cowser to stay on the roster. In 10 total games Calhoun has 1 pass defensed and 5 tackles. In three games Cowser has a fumble recovery, a sack and 2 tackles.

Nice work, man. Really highlights how bad Roberts has been. I'd really like to see what Walford would do with more targets. 44 to your starting TE seems awfully low. Agree re: crowser.

I hope our WRs are as pissed as Penn was after the game. They need to get Carr's back and catch everything he throws their way to the level GB's did when Favre's dad passed. Is it just me or did Crab switch out hands before he left for Mexico and now can't find the good ones?
