Fuck! We Hired Getsy Thread

Assuming Vic’s tweet is true, then somebody did something unexpected, which scuttled the deal. It makes no sense for Mark to do something unexpected. The question then becomes whether Klingbury scuttled the deal on purple by making a demand Mark could not accept?

The threshold question is why did it take so long to even get to the announcement stage with KK? Was AP having second thoughts? Or was KK keeping his options open?

Considering that KK agreed to an announcement, I assume AP was not all in on KK but continued to interview other candidates and by moving slowly (a) he left an opening for KK to renege possibly for news on a possible better option and (b) KK to show his true colors — meaning AP dodged a bullet?

Of course, IDK.

Seems to me a beat writer should know what happened. Perhaps they are waiting for our actual OC hire to share it, which would make sense. No reason, though, not to throw some homer shade at KK. Lol

Meanwhile, from Adam Schefter: Klint Kubiak likely to the Saints.

- All these leaks about the hire were coming from the Raiders.... they weren't coming from Klingbury.... A team won't leak until the money is agreed upon.... This wasn't about the money.

- The first thing to wonder when Klingbury jumps ship.... was he really that interested or was he using the Raiders as leverage for another situation he wanted more?

- The thing I never understood is why would a strong OC like Klingbury want to come to a team with no established QB, no OLine, no known history with the current HC, and an owner who has a track record of dumping coaching staffs every few years?

- The only plausible theory I can come up with is perhaps the Raiders either had a FA QB as a target that initially lured Klingbury or a big trade into the top 2 or 3 set up.... but somehow those situations fell apart and Klingbury backed out.... Not coincidental that the Redskins have the #2 pick and Klingbury is suddenly tied to that situation (this feels more like Klingbury leaking the Redskins interest.....)? Were the Raiders and Redskins talking trade and it fell through and Klingbury basically implying his only interest is to coach a particular rookie QB?

Well said.

There would have been no leak from anyone without approval from both sides. Somebody has some questions to answer.

The reported 2 year versus 3 year deal thing smacks of pretext. Why would the Raiders scuttle the deal over that?

Bottom line, KK got a better offer and took it. Did we leave the door open too long? Perhaps. That would mean KK or AP did not blow the other away.

To suggest it wasn’t KK flipping on his word is bullshit, though, until prove otherwise. Wonder if it was a team other than the Raiders, whether the press would already been screwing KK.

Where is that turd polish thing ?

Gonna have to do some of my best work to shine this one up.

Two Hall of Famers on Luke Getsy. Probably a lot of ‘players-speak’..

“One of the unsung heroes is Coach Getsy,” Davante Adams said of his wide receivers coach in the first two years his career took off after struggling in 2014 and ’15. “Luke Getsy is a coach who I really really enjoyed having. … I had a lot of respect for Gets and what he did with us because he played quarterback, so the way he dove into the wideout position as far as the particulars, that helped open up my eyes even more so than what I learned from (Williams) before that. So he’s a guy who’s trying to be a master at his craft. And it’s funny to me that he ran a room like me, Jordy (Nelson), (Randall) Cobb, James Jones, because he threw to James … he was the (college) all-star game quarterback, so that was his guy, and now he’s coming here and telling him what to do. I love it though, man.”

“Getsy played the game in college, actually with a couple of my former junior college teammates, crazy enough,” said Aaron Rodgers, who added that Getsy is capable of being in front of a room and captivating an audience, a quality he thinks is most important in a head coach. “He’s 38 years old, well, about to be 38 and he’s got a great energy about him.”

From a couple years ago..

What comes as more of a surprise is that Packers quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator Luke Getsy, only 37 years old, will also interview for the Broncos’ head-coaching job. Perhaps Denver is preparing for an offseason pursuit of Aaron Rodgers by showing interest in not only Hackett but a position coach Rodgers holds in high regard, but those closest to Getsy believe he’s ready for the opportunity no matter the circumstances.

“I think Luke’s done an outstanding job,” LaFleur said Wednesday. “He’s an excellent communicator, great teacher, great team guy. I think he sees the game the right way. He’s got such a great presence about him. Players respond to him, so it’s a great opportunity for him and, you know, another guy we would hate to lose, but would be happy for him and his family if he gets that opp.”

“Do I think he’s ready? I think absolutely. I think he’s done a great job. I think he’s a great communicator. He’s got great command. I think people believe in him. He’s genuine. He’s a good person. He cares about people. He’s got all the qualities that you look for, I think, when you think about a leader.”

If KK ends up in Washington and they let Bienemy walk that would be my #1 guy. I'd much rather have him than Kelly or Getsy... If the historically offensively challenged Chicago Bears think you suck that is saying something.

Albert Breer on Getsy..

“He's very well-respected," Albert Breer told "Kap & JHood" on ESPN 1000. "I think there are people out there that think he did a pretty good job in the last couple of years, all things considered. Bringing Justin along, building an offense for Justin, weathering the injuries, having a rookie quarterback ready to go in Tyson Bagent.

"I would say there are enough people that feel like, you know, that the potential that he had two years ago when he was hired and became an offensive coordinator, that the potential is still there."

But, as Breer suggests, Getsy's reported interest around the league may not be a facade.

Getsy's stint with the Bears wasn't all bad. He figured out how to make DJ Moore the central figure of the passing attack, as needed, after a slow start. He helped to get Fields going towards the end of the year. The run game was effective for the second year in a row.
