Clelin Ferrell is a bust

He hasn’t complained publicly. He most certainly wasn’t on the same page as his coaches on what his role was going to be last season.
Yes, they were not on the same page. Thought I read that Ferrell landed in Gruden’s doghouse in ‘20 when he did not play through his shoulder injury. The Raiders were 7-4 during his starts that year. The team lost two games when he got CV19–the heartbreaker against KC and blowout against Atl. He was our best DL against the Jets upon his return. After he got injured early against Indi, where the D literally got run over, the team lost to LAC (27-30) and Mia (25-26). That’s 3 1SL down the stretch with Ferrell on the bench—the difference between 11-5 and 8-8. Gruden was apparently livid and faulted Ferrell. Ferrell apparently responded that offseason by returning to his rookie weight—not continuing to get bigger after losing weight during the season. Ngakoue and Nassib passed him on the depth chart and Gruden/Gus signed Jefferson, Thomas and Philon making it a moot point inside. Ferrell was inactive against Balt to start the season after not being on the injury report all week. Per PFR, Ferrell averaged 16 snaps per game after that. In contrast, Nassib averaged 23 snaps per game the first 10 games before he got injured. Koonce was activated after Nassib’s injury and replaced his snaps.

I remember looking up that the Raiders were 6-0 when Ferrell played more than 70% of the snaps.

I remember finding it rather pathetic that our defense revolved so much on a rotational player.

QB can score to give the team the lead, which happened in all three of those games, including with 18 seconds left against Mia. That the D can’t hold onto last-possession leads was a problem in ‘20. It was not in ‘16. Carr figured out how to avoid the problem in ‘21 with walk-off wins.
