2024 Free agency...

I still think Conor Williams would be a stash signing after the draft. He probably won’t be good to go for a while though. Bring some versatility as OC/OG as well.

I fully expect a 3 OL class. At least one in the first 2 days.

It's a strong class and we've needed to shore up depth for a while

I agree. The last few drafts have not been great for o-linemen and this is the draft to add a few.

What happened?

Just the ongoing conversation about Marcus Allen.

I think opinions of him are mostly split between fans that got to watch him help the Raiders win a SB and younger fans that know him mostly for shitting on the organization.

fantastic, we're not getting him anywhere near his peak as you note. He's in his journeyman stage and is at Van Roten level. Maybe he works out as well.
Van Roten literally had a career year for the Raiders per PFF (75.3) and SIS (3.8%). He had never before been graded in the 70’s by PFF and his prior high per SIS was in ‘18 for the Panthers. A good bet he would not duplicate that in a new blocking scheme playing next to a new RT.

Marcus had that reverse direction run in the Super Bowl that he took to the house. He had never done it before, and he spent the rest of his career trying to do it again. It was interesting to watch...

I watched that Super Bowl. That was the year I started watching the Raiders. I loved that dude at that point. But you know he hates the Raiders when he went to KC. He used to fumble all the time right around the goaline when he was with the Raiders. Trying to sabotage the team cause he hated Al.i don’t know what their beef was but when he went to KC I hated him after that.

Marcus was a great Raider and he was known for scoring TD’s on the goal line, not fumbling.
No one knows what really happened between him and AL.

Oh he scored a lot, but I watched plenty of games of him fumbling from goal to goal.

He's 7th all time in non QB fumbles, lead the league in fumbles in 83. I have no context to that other than it seems like RBs fumbled quite a bit back then and most the guys ahead of him are HOFers.

Jalen Richard.

Now there is a real raider who never fumbled and didn’t go to the Chiefs cuz Al Davis made him sad

I can remember one run against the Chargers where he reversed his run and took it all the way the other for a TD. Plunkett threw a block on it too. They always include it on highlight reels. I think it was 85.

He did fumble a fair few. As you say, not sure why. I think they coached RBs differently in terms of how to tuck it - there's plenty of photos of the likes of him and other 'half-backs' of the era with the ball away from their body. Plus of course, I think the Seahawks in particular plus the Broncos were both among the innovators in focusing directly at forcing fumbles - going for the ball much more than previous teams. I think that was pretty new as a wrinkle and the Seahawks and Broncos were probably the League best at it during the mid-80s.

I wonder if it had to do with the way offenses were changing and were scoring more due to the rule changes? I think turning the ball over become much more of a dangerous prospect during the 80s, to the point where by 2000 it was pretty much, lose the turnover battle, lose the game. I don't think that was quite the problem til the 80s.

Oh - I think it's utter nonsense that Marcus fumbled on purpose, particularly close to the goal-line. In fact I can't remember a single play when he did that. And I can remember a fumble at the Kingdome in 84, one against the Patriots in the divisional playoff in 85, and the dynasty-ending one against the Eagles in 87. Those fuckers are burned into my dreams.
