Offseason Suit Thread

But the owners are white, thus a very bad look trying to recapture ground and silence protesters.
:hmph:

When is this shit ever gonna fuckin stop?

Conservatives are no better. If you can’t see that....
Two heads to the same troll, playing both ends against the middle to enrich themselves. They're mostly together behind the scenes. Everything on camera or in the paper is a show to try and convince us the parties are different.

The President is making comments on this on his twitter saying these players should be kicked out of our country. This issue isn't dying down anytime soon. The flames are certainly being fanned by both sides and anyone arguing otherwise isn't paying attention.

This, along with the constant rule changes in the name of "player safety" will be the downfall of this league in my opinion.

Protesting, player safety, offseason coasting, in-season patty-cakes, price gouging, alternative sports, etc.

Mutually assured destruction? Perhaps not, but ratings will continue to drop as the product on the field becomes less, and less, about what made football great.

The whole National Anthem protest, and the idea behind it has basically failed. Trump quite simply did a masterful job of squashing the original talking points, and replaced them with a new set of talking points. The original message has been long since forgotten, and no matter how often someone says it's not about our troops or those who have served, the reality is Trump ensured that is exactly what the perception would be from the moment he opened his mouth on the topic. Especially with the players not hitting the national stage to

Every time a player chose to sit from that moment on it was a no win situation for the NFL and those that wanted to continue to have a peaceful protest. In essence Trump put the NFL in checkmate fairly quickly, and has been toying with them ever since in order to strengthen his base. The sad thing is the players that want to continue down the same path either are too dumb to see it, or too stubborn to realize they need to find a new platform in which to address these very real issues that Trump has swept under the rug.

The NFL and the players (especially Kaep) have completely botched this.

1.) Kaep is a fucking pussy.. He should be on TV, on the radio, in magazines, on podcasts or whatever outlet he can find to talk about why it's such an important topic, and what he and other African Americans see on a daily basis. Instead for the most part he's been a coward, and avoided the spotlight. If you ask me he's really done more harm than good. Whether or not he wanted to be the focal point of this or not, he is the focal point, and he's chickened out at addressing it. IMO. The collusion lawsuit is not bringing attention to the cause IMO.

2.) The NFL has done no favors for their players, and their brand. They really should have seen that Trump checkmated them a long time ago, and instead of trying to figure a way out, they should have just laid down their king, and walked away. If they just followed suit and started to punish players for protesting the "flag and troops" (yes thats what Trump turned it into) the NFL could have saved face, and might have actually helped bring more attention to the players brave enough to continue kneeling for the Anthem. In return those players could have gained more National attention in the media allowing them to talk about why they were willing to be suspended for this cause. Doing this may have been the only way to have avoided a checkmate.

It has been a real fiasco for the NFL, and its players that want to bring attention to a very real situation in America. IMO the only person who is walking away from this smelling like roses is Trump, and he's quite honestly played the NFL and the American people like a fiddle. It's too bad that those players who were brave enough to kneel are not brave enough to seek out the mic, and refuse to not have their voices heard.

The highest rated show on TV last year was Sunday Night Football. For the 7th season in a row. It has the longest streak of any TV program ever for staying at the top spot. I can't help but laugh when people talk about the NFL going away or losing fans.

These new rules will suck but they've been messing with the rules for the last 15 years and here we still are.

I've said it before.Everyone wants to scream about the 2nd Amendment but ignore the 1St.

Its all about "I have my opinion but yours is wrong".Taken to the extreme.

Great post.I'll make another point to illustrate both sides of an argument.

My father in law is here for son's HS graduation. We were talking about it.

He feels,as a Vet,that he doesn't like when they kneel.Feels it's disrespectful.I understand that. But I also mentioned that many vets feel that they served so that people have the right to express their opinion.

Both under attack.

I'm a Vet, and have zero issue with the players kneeling. If I felt as though kneeling was intended to be a slight towards our forces or those that served I would have a completely different viewpoint. I can respect those that say it's offensive, and would never try and change their opinion on the matter, but for me it just is not offensive nor was it intended to be, and for me that makes a huge difference.

I don’t watch porn or sports to get lectured on politics or religion. Don’t know why it’s hard to understand. Do it off the field.

So no praying on the field or thanking of God or Allah or whomever on the field or after the game...Right?

I see what you did there.

The NBA got this right. The NFL didn’t. LaBron can bring attention to social justice issues all he wants . . . just not during the anthem at work.

After the game, sure. Kneel all you want. On the field during the game or part of a sanctioned event (the anthem), you risk offending customers whether customers should be offended or more tolerant.

The sign off the cross before an at bat, as part of a TD celebration, or a made 3, I get your point. Kneel or raise a fist in protest at that point. No sport league has a rule against that, I’m guessing.

I don’t see a groundswell of support for NBA (or MLB) players demanding to protest the anthem. I do see overzealousness and righteousness on both sides of the NFL anthem issue. It’s a no win situation for the league and the players.

Just about the time the shitty NFL product is about to suck me back in I get reminded of another reason to hate it!

Two have a rule on the anthem. And I don’t see a groundswell of support for NBA and MLB players demanding to protest the anthem. I do see overzealousness and righteousness on both sides of the NFL anthem issue, and its a no win situation for the league and the players.

Actually MLB nor NHL have rules that require players to stand for the National Anthem. Only the NBA/WNBA have rules that prohibit players from taking a knee.

I agree it's a no win situation for both the NFL and the players now. Like I said, Trump checkmated them. Kaep quite honestly IMO blew it. He had the focus of the sports world on him along with a few other players, and they blew it. They had what they thought would be a silent protest going even though it was still a very loud statement in of itself. So instead of owning up to such a loud statement was being made, they tried not to poke the bear. Instead the following year the bear came and poked them. Those players should have taken the window of opportunity they had, and really worked the media circut. Instead of ensuring their protest couldn't be misinterpreted, or that their message would be heard, they decided to try and continue this very loud, silent protest, and unfortunately Trump in one simple statement and a few pointed Tweets, for all intents and purposes changed everything.

Was Trump wrong for what he did? Not at all, he strengthened his base further, he will be able to claim that "he fixed" what the NFL couldn't fix and suggested players use other ways to talk about social issues instead of not supporting the our troops.. Support him or not, he's done a masterful job of making it un-American to use the National Anthem as a way of protesting, even though, that actually may be one of the most American things you and I have the freedom to do.
