Welcome Zack...

Raiders Sign Tight End Zach Miller

July 27, 2007

The Oakland Raiders have signed rookie TE Zach Miller. to a contract. The Arizona State product signed his contract at the team’s Napa Valley Training Complex. He was selected by the Raiders in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft.

As a junior in 2006, Miller had 50 receptions for 484 yards and four TDs. He was voted a consensus All-American and earned Walter Camp All-America honors in 2006. In three year at ASU, he caught 144 passes for 1,512 yards and 14 TDs.

“I feel good; I’m just glad to have it done and be able to get out to practice. I’m here now and I can start practicing, showing the coaches what I have."

Miller will step onto the Raider's Napa practice field today to begin training for the 2007 season. Be sure to watch Miller and the rest of the Raider players as they kick off their pre-season schedule at home against the Arizona Cardinals, Saturday, August 11th, at McAfee Coliseum.

Oh no you didnt Bones

Wake up. Stay outta them tittie bars.

WTF...you just noticed the REP System? :shakehead:

That's great news. Paging Mr. Russell.

Hey Bones, wtf is up with my rep system? I don't even have 70 yet, am I that unworthy?:shakehead:

Ya, who decides your "REP POWER" anyway?? I think my previous contribution to the "other" place should be enough for me to shine!

Its all based on receiving rep... the more rep you recieve (specially from peeps with high rep power) the more your rep power increases..

I'm gonna get RZ to reset the entire cluster fuck rep system so we can start over with "reasonable" numbers. I screwed the whole thing up early on because I wanted to see people with more little boxes...now everybody has tons of 'em.

Russell still missing

Arizona St. TE Miller signs with Raiders, works out

Saturday July 28, 2007

NAPA, Calif. (AP) -- The Oakland Raiders signed second-round draft pick Zach Miller, leaving No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell as the only player missing from training camp.

Miller, a tight end from Arizona State, came to terms with the Raiders late Friday night and was on the field for the team's first two-a-day workouts the following morning. His signing comes two days after Oakland released veteran tight end Courtney Anderson.

Terms of Miller's deal were not disclosed.

Coach Lane Kiffin said the Raiders are continuing negotiations with Russell. Last year's No. 1 overall draft pick, Mario Williams of the Houston Texans, signed a six-year, $54 million deal that included a $26.5 million signing bonus, and Russell is reportedly seeking a deal near $60 million.

While Russell remains at his mother's house in Mobile, Ala., Josh McCown and Andrew Walter are splitting reps running Oakland's first-team offense in practice.

"He's still not here," Kiffin said. "(We're) still making movement on his contract but obviously not there yet."

One more draft pick signed, and one to go

Calling Zach Miller a "holdout" is a stretch.

While the Raiders took the field for their first practice Friday, Miller was in Napa, expecting to be with them after arriving that day, only to be told his contract wasn't ready.

But the rookie who could be the Raiders' starting tight end this season was on the field Saturday morning after signing with Oakland late Friday night.

Teammates and coaches let Miller have it about his "holdout."

"Give him a Volkswagen and a set of golf clubs, and he's ready to report to camp," linebackers coach Don Martindale bellowed during practice. "Sweet holdout, Zach."

And that was the case all morning.

"He said that the whole time," Miller said, laughing afterward. "I was like, 'Come up with some new material.' "

Despite the jokes, Miller, a second-round draft pick out of Arizona State, was eager to get on the field and battle for the starting job that appears wide open right now.

"It comes with the territory, so most of the guys are pretty good about it," Miller said. "They were in that situation. You've just got to go with it."

Quarterback JaMarcus Russell, the first overall pick in the draft, is the Raiders' only unsigned rookie.

"His deal is complicated, from what I hear," Miller said. "So whenever he gets out here, I'm sure he'll have a little catch-up to do as far as the plays, but that comes with being the first pick, I guess."

Coach Lane Kiffin said there were no updates on Russell's situation in terms of when he would be at training camp instead of at home in Mobile, Ala.

"He's still not here," Kiffin said. "Still making movement on his contract but obviously not here yet."

The commissioner's office -- Running back Dominic Rhodes pleaded his case before NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell last month. Rhodes had only been in trouble with alcohol once, but that was enough for Goodell to suspend him for the first four games of the 2007 regular season.

Rhodes was arrested for driving while intoxicated in Indianapolis in February and pleaded guilty to reckless driving in March. Rhodes' blood-alcohol level was 0.09 percent, just above the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

"If you get in the news right now with anything right now, they're going to put down on you," Rhodes said.

The 28-year-old said he's not a troublemaker but that the suspension was a wake-up call.

"I won't be driving again (after drinking), even if I have barely a little taste of a drink," Rhodes said.

Addition -- The Raiders signed quarterback Cody Pickett, who was at the evening practice. A seventh-round pick of the 49ers in 2004, Pickett was released by the Houston Texans before the start of last season.

So Rhodes gets 4 games for his first offense but Jared Allen's gets reduced to two games for his second DUI?:shakehead:

.09... I didnt know he blew that..I blow that when I wake up in the mornings

Thats like 2-3 beers

Thats pretty harsh, I thought for sure the guy blew well over 1, at least 1.5 to get 4 games?

Who's the Commish again? Fuckin Hitler?

Ya, that has me and a lot of others rather pissed off. :shakehead:

Just so everyone is clear: Zach Miller is the player Im most excited about for next season.

He is not like our last 2nd round TE's (IMO Teyo and Jolley were both 2nd round reaches)

This guy is the Truth.

Zach is going to lead the team in first downs.

If he gets us more first downs than Curry then I will be very happy.

Unless it is because Curry is injured then I will be very sad.
