Anyone else realize that we have the last pick in the third round, and the first pick the next day? Well, course y'all realize it, you're clever Raider fans!

Having realized that, can anyone think of any reason why the Raiders should make that selection at the end of the 3rd round?

We all hear the trade talk after Day 1, as teams try and boogie up to the top of the 4th round. But instead of 5 minutes between picks, teams have more than 12 hours to talk trade.

I expect the Raiders to pass on their last pick at the end of the 3rd round, and have back-to-back picks the following morning, and spend Saturday night answering the phones. In fact, I'll go so far as to say it'd be stupid to make that pick. With two picks at the top of the 4th, the Raiders control Day 2. Or at least, the 4th round.

The problem there, mass, is the Raiders' last pick in the 3rd round is a comp pick. I imagine they could decide not to make the selection on Saturday and roll it over to Sunday although I'm not sure if the league would consider that a forfeited pick and then they'd only have the 4th rounder. But in any event, even if they could pull it off, the comp pick would then turn into the first pick of the 4th round, but it's still a comp pick and therefore untradeable.

I forgot they couldn't trade it.

But if they pass, I am sure they can just jump in make the pick whenever they like, just like any other pick.

Interesting, wonder if it's ever happened?

Maybe Al will do it just to bent the entire league to his will :D

Either way they're on the clock for that 12 hours, though, with only one tradeable pick. So I'm not sure how they'd have anymore leverage by passing than they'd have by picking.

I figure if they are making the pick, why not mull it over for a night? Maybe even get some guys on the phone and talk contract?

Not to mention it seems like the kind of dick move the Raiders would pull.

Remember the 30 minute wait before Scrabble and Brayton?

How did Scrabble-Brayton shape up?

I was at work, and only had the internet for a resource...

Was it a long pause and then blam blam? or pick-pause-pick?

I thought you got 15 mins. a pick?

You do, and the Raiders had 30 minutes to make two picks. The ESPN guys were laughing about it, because when it came up, Berman made a comment like, "Well, the Raiders have 30 minutes, and I'm sure they'll use them all...."

At about minute 29, they made both picks.

I was monitering that draft via the internet from the Middle East at around 3am. I waited all that time and then Al goes and takes two guys I never even heard of.

Don't feel bad, Tyler Brayton is still unknown in the NFL.

Isn't THAT the truth. Much like the Stanford Routt pick.. it was a 'wtf? WHO?' moment for me, absolutely. I had to go look them up because I hadn't heard of them.

The worst part was seeing McGahee go a couple of picks before.

I just knew he was going to make a full recovery and be the next great Raider RB.

:(
