Protect the 2008 4th round comp pick (for the loss of Walker). Don't sign anyone.

Seriously, whatever excess cap space we got I would use it on Aso because the longer we wait now the higher the price tag will be.

Here's a decent tracker:

I'm not expecting much at all in the terms of high tier or big money FA's.... We could get healthier by just going after depth and the non big money, lunch pail positions (FB, blocking TE)

* Robaire Smith, Ian Scott or Alphonso Boone could add some depth to the rotation as run stopping DT's...

* We currently have no blocking TE on the roster... Someone like Reggie Kelly would be useful in short yardage and two TE sets... Maybe big Erron Kinney if his knee checks out... Graham or Eric Johnson would be nice, but for now I'd be content with someone just capable of bringing it at the point of attack on running plays...

* We need depth at guard... Someone like Ruben Brown or Zach Pillar can either start at LG or back up both guard spots... Brown is experienced in a ZB scheme and Pillar has the mean streak our guys have been really lacking... Jeno James bombed with Miami but looked good as a pulling left guard with Carolina... At the least he'd provide depth... Mike Rosenthal may be worth a look as a back up OT...

* Justin Griffith as a FB signing makes alot of sense on just about every level considering his familiarality with our coaches... Damian Shelton is just the kind of big mauling FB we've been crying for for years...

It was nice to dream the big FA dream before reality hit, but realistically after the public negativity surrounding our franchise this past year, if they just give me a physical blocking 2nd TE (Kelly), a bruising FB (Shelton), a nasty OG that can make Boothe and McQ work for starting spots (Pillar) and a two gap DT (Smith) to rotate with the Terd and I'd be okay with this free agency period all things considered...

ESPN Radio: John Clayton says...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just heard the following from John Clayton on ESPN Radio...

-Daniel Graham choices are between Seattle and Denver despite his visit to Oakland.

-Travis Henry is negotiating a contract with the Broncos.

-Buffalo's search for a 1st or 2nd for Willis McGahee just went out the window with Ahman Green signing in Houston, and Denver negotiating with Travis Henry. McGahee may get cut unless their able to salvage a late round pick for him at this point. Also, that they may be 'players' in the draft for Cal's Marshawn Lynch.

-Leonard Davis signed in Dallas for ridiculous amount of money.

-Raiders have reached an agreement to trade Randy Moss to Green Bay, but Moss has to agree to a new deal with the Pack.

Looks like the Raiders could potentially target McGahee and end up with a draft pick from the Moss deal....
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now the only thing I could add to this is:

1) I know Al was hot for McGaghee the year Buffalo cock blocked us...

2) Our off season will look very good if we can net a 2nd-3rd rounder for Moss, AND sign a second tier TE like Eric Johnson etc.

Too good to believe!!!!!!!!

If the Bills were to CUT McGahee I would think the earliest that would occur is after the draft when they've successfully gotten Lynch with the #12 pick.

As MadTurk mentioned in another thread, McGahee has a high financial opinion of himself. IIRC that's the whole problem right now between him and BUF.

Whoever trades for him not only coughs up a pick and gets stuck with his contract demands. Could become a sticky situation unless everything is straightened out before the papers are signed.

Travis Henry to DEN scares the hell out of me. They're making some excellent moves out there. They replaced Darrent Williams with Dre Bly. A significant upgrade IMO. If they add Henry and draft a 1st-round WR they could nail the AFCW to the wall.

So there is a chance that "WillisDaRaider" could possibly actually finally become a Raider maybe???

Ahman Green will reportedly earn $8 million in 2007 and $12.5-$13 million in the first two years of his deal.

If a 30 year old back gets a silly contract like this, imagine what a guy like McGahee will ask for...

What makes me laugh is that the guy has been a truly mediocre back in the NFL.

We're talking a sub 4.0 YPC average, he averages 8 TD's a season, doesnt break many long runs, (Longs of 57 and 41 career gets about 5 20+ yarders a season) and has legitimate off field issues.

He's Lamont Jordan if you actually look at him a bit, although LJ has great receiving skills and McGahee is actually a sound blocker.

That being said, I'll take a chance on him, if it means we dont pay LJ a 5 million dollar bonus and get a fresh young talent on the team...

I'd just as soon take 2 RBs on Day 2 and go from there. McGahee isn't worth the kind of money we'd have to pay him.

Shit. Henry is officially a Bronco now. 5 years with 12 mill guaranteed.

I would be down to take McGaynee if he is on a one-year contract showoff situation. I would trade our extra 5th so we could have him for one year. If he fits great then we could re-sign him. But like 007 said, this guys is a Lamont clone. Id rather take Michael Bush in round 3.

Same.

Give me Bush/Irons/Hunt and Leonard and I'm ready to roll.

Hell, If Lorenzo Booker is there at 4:1, he'd make a great choice to pair with Leonard.

I'm gonna have to fly out to Denver in September and bring him a special Humboldt County brownie.:D

HENRY HEADS TO DENVER

On the same day that running back Travis Henry was due to receive an $8.3 million roster bonus from his former team, the Titans, Henry hauled in $12 million in guaranteed money from the Denver Broncos as part of a five-year deal, according to Adam Schefter of the NFL Network.

Henry was released by the Titans on Saturday after Tennessee opted not to pay him the big-money roster bonus. Per Schefter, Henry was also scheduled to visit the Raiders, Packers, and Giants.

So Henry becomes the latest tailback in a line of performers who have benefited from a perfectly-executed blocking scheme, which we probably should refer to as the "Nancy Kerrigan," since it is premised in large part on taking defenders out at the knee.

Though Terrell Davis gets borderline pissy when the issue of player versus system is raised, we're convinced that Davis, a second-day pick a decade ago, would have been just a guy in any other offense, and that the holes created by the Broncos' line allowed him to become who he was until one of those linemen ironically took him out at the knee while pursuing a defender after a turnover.

Others who have performed well in this offense include Olandis Gary, Mike Anderson, Clinton Portis, Reuben Droughns, Ron Dayne (for a game or two), Tatum Bell, and Mike Bell.

Henry, as we've recently mentioned, was suspended for four games in 2005 for violation of the substance abuse policy. He was acquired that same year by the Titans from the Bills in a trade.

If Denver can just plug in any running back and have them go crazy then This is a bad signing. If the guy gets in trouble its a one year suspension. If they are paying bank for a RB then i guess it could be worse.

Nothing a hooker, an eight ball and a hot piss test can't fix... Anybody know if that girl that jacked up Kobe still lives in Colorodo?...

PFT saying Randy McMichael might be cut before a $3M roster bonus is paid on Wednessday.

EDIT: Sounds like they've already released him.

Also, on 790theticket they just reported that they have indeed released Randy McMichael.
