Who should the raiders look to draft at QB?

Who should we get? (Explain how we get in comments if it needs trading up)

Darnold, according to reports, is gonna price himself out of Minnesota with what he’s gonna demand on the FA market. That’s one of the reasons they got Daniel Jones. As a backup to JJ McCarthy next year…and as insurance if JJ isn’t quite ready. From ESPN:

ESPN’s Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler believe that Darnold is pricing himself out of Minnesota, and the team is comfortable with that reality (subscription required). Although a scenario in which McCarthy’s recovery takes longer than expected could tempt the Vikes to bring Darnold back, McCarthy is obviously expected to take the reins at some point, and Darnold’s price tag is likely to far exceed what the club is willing to pay given its investment and belief in McCarthy.
I think they are guessing just as much as we are. If he takes them deep into the playoffs do they risk turning it over to someone else? I wouldn't.

I get that Minnesota drafted McCarthy but why would they let Darnold walk when they are winning with him? Why would he want to leave when he's finally winning? I bet he ends up back in Minnesota. GB took Love and sat him for 4 years, it's not unprecedented.

Agreed. Dammit this cant be a good sign.

Minny is about to go 13-4 or 12-5 with Darnold. They have 80 mil in space too lol.

They could give him 2 years 50 mil or franchise him and keep the train rolling.

I was thinking about that today.

So we have the 5th most cap space going into ‘25…so theoretically signing him wouldn’t be the issue. But the issue is do you think enough of him…to basically hand him the keys and then not draft a supposed franchise QB when you have the *ability* to do so.

The argument for doing so, IMO, would be: he’s still only 27 so he’s still in his prime-prime. He’s got the Vikings to a 10-2 record and has done it while having good stats to go with it (not just a glossy record because of defense for example). He’s spearheading that team.

But getting Darnold would give you the ability to draft Travis Hunter at #1 or #2 and now you’d have:

- Darnold as ur QB
- Hunter as your #1. And Hunter is..

  • Generational athlete with freakish fluidity and explosiveness, consistently showcasing elite traits on both sides of the ball
  • Ball hawk with uncanny instincts and route recognition, leading to game-changing plays and turnovers
  • Silky smooth in transition with elite hip flip and backpedal, allowing for seamless coverage adjustments
  • Sticky in man coverage with excellent mirror-and-match skills, consistently locking down top receivers
  • Natural hands catcher who plucks the ball away from his frame, making difficult catches look routine
  • Devastating route runner with crisp breaks and sudden acceleration, creating consistent separation
  • Rare twitch and lateral agility to make defenders miss in space, turning short catches into big gains
- Jakobi as your #2
- Tre as your #3

And…the best TE in football making your offense a mismatch nightmare. And you’d still have 3 more picks in the top 69.

Could we get Darnold that a lot of teams will be salivating over?

Well the pitch would be…we’ll match any teams offer and probably beat it with Nevada’s no state tax, and you’d have better weapons at your disposal than any other team that you would sign with. And you’d be playing for an iconic franchise in an iconic city, with the best facilities in the business.

Does he say no? Could he say no to that? Would we even want to go that route? Apologies for the length.
We'd continue to win just enough games to never be in position to draft a good QB.

My guess is that will happen.

With the Bucs, Falcons, Saints and Jaguars, I would be surprised if Raiders don't win at least 2 of those games.

Let the hand wringing begin, whether Telesco will trade up. It's an annual event.
It’s the worst thing for the franchise so of course it’ll happen.

Jameis on this team means death. I'm serious. Raider fans will die watching him play- old ones, and maybe even some younger ones in poor health. Yeah, he's entertaining, the way a high speed car crash is. Last night's game was great to watch because he wasn't on my team. I'd have thrown a hammer through the tv if he played for Raiders.

John Henry in the house!

If Raiders drop out of top 5, Dillon Gabriel anyone later in the second round?

1. Dillon Gabriel, Oregon

Easy choice.

Gabriel’s height (5 foot 11) makes him a less-than-ideal NFL prospect, which has led him to a six-year, three-school college career. But he is not without next-level skills.

“What I appreciate most is his quick trigger,” The Athletic’s Dane Brugler wrote last week, adding he would not be surprised if Gabriel becomes a mid-round pick or better. “Gabriel has a great feel for route timing in relation to coverage, which allows him to eliminate things quickly and fire passes without overthinking.”

The Ducks’ quarterfinal at the Rose Bowl against the Tennessee-Ohio State winner will be Gabriel’s record 63rd college game. He is 795 yards away from breaking the FBS career passing record held by Case Keenum (19,217). Gabriel’s confidence, experience and poise shine through in big games – he’s totaled 867 yards, eight touchdown passes and zero interceptions in three victories against CFP teams this season – and there is no surer thing among the quarterbacks in this Playoff.
