Who should the raiders look to draft at QB?

Who should we get? (Explain how we get in comments if it needs trading up)

A trade up involving Davante could get us one of the top guys (Caleb, Maye) but man Penix, Daniels, and Nix are pretty dang good too. Before this past CFB szn I thought Caleb was gonna be generational, but now I’m not so sure. This is a crazy tough decision and I’m glad I don’t have to make it. That being said I like Nix or Daniels, cause I think they could both be great and you wouldn’t have to trade up into top 3/5 to get them.
(Cam Ward having a round 2 to day 3 grade is very intriguing to me as well, he can SLING it)

Nah, it's all good. The Raiders already have their 2024 QB in Aidan O'Connell. /s

:killme:

At this point, I have Caleb, Maye, Daniels in a tier above the rest, but if the Raiders can't trade up to get the top 3 QBs I'm really like Penix at the moment. (prisoner of the moment for sure)

I think the Raiders should use Davante Adams as trade bait. See if you can pry the #8 pick away from the Jets to let Adams and Rodgers team up in Rutherford, NJ then package the #8 and ~#13 pick to get Daniels. Or else grab Penix at #8 and a stud WR (Odunze? Nabor?) at #13.

Agreed fully although I do like Nix as well.

He is just fun to watch. I could easily root for him.

I would love to move up for one of the “big three” I just don’t see it happening. To me there are 5 guys I am going to feel good with in this draft. Williams, Maybe, Daniels, Nix and Penix. The two QB’s I have the most confidence in them being solid QB’s are Daniels and Nix the other 3 have some issues I do worry about.

Penix has a laundry list of injuries over the years that have ended his seasons and, as accurate of a deep ball thrower he is, he has a tendency to blindly go after his first read. It works now, just worry a tad about his processing.

Williams is a bit too run around and try to make something happen for my tastes, but having that ability is what we have been missing for years. He has a great arm, but too often doesn’t seem to trust his WR’s from what I have seen.

Maybe is the prototype big guy QB that has some amazing throws and will just absolutely fit the ball into perfect windows. At other times you wonder if he can hit the side of a barn. He’s the hardest for me to watch because he was always on the run, and his WR’s didn’t always do him favors. He can also run for a big boy.

Daniels and Nix to me just seem “safe” for different reasons. Daniels speed and athleticism is 2nd to none he has that Lamar Jackson thing going. Nix is extremely accurate and rarely misses his WR in stride. I just don’t know how each of them will adjust to either windows being much tighter in Nix’s case or running lanes being closed and actually being hit hard in Daniels case.

In the end I would be happy with any of these 5 guys. Will be real interesting to see where we go in the draft and what we are willing to make happen to get our guy. My personal guess is we make a play for Daniels if we keep AP around.

Here’s the plan…

Trade Adams to the Jets for 1.8. Package 1.8, 1.10, 2025 #1 plus a 2025 3 and move the fuck up for Daniels. Done.

You assholes have the balls for that? If not you’re pussies.

Haven’t we had enough of this dancing around protecting our precious draft picks only to squander them on crappy players and pretending we know what we’re doing?

Somebody said “what have we got to lose”? Not much. It’s been 40 years boys since we won the whole thing. The plan hasn’t worked for that long. Almost with the Gannon team but not quite and now we’re running in place with maybe the worst owner in pro sports.

Penix or Nix would be a consolation prize but “always the bridesmaid never the bride" sucks.

Holla pussies.

Shit we’ll be lucky if the Jets don’t grab a QB themselves. Dude lasted 4 plays last year and has waffled retirement for the past 5-6 years already.

That’s a possibility but you know the Jets are a train wreck too. And Rodgers is already banging the table for The Pouter.

My guess is that if AP is retained, the move up will be for Daniels. There's a connection there dating back to ASU. And we'll probably need to move to the 4-6 range to get him. I think Pennix and/or Nix will be there. Pennix b/c his injury history is scary and Nix b/c he's a "system" QB. I am not all the impressed with JJ McCarthy (sorry @DonkeyKilla), who seems like QB 6 if he comes out, but looks like he could use another year. I do think any of the above will be a step up from AO'C.

I'm fine with any of the top 5 frankly. I'm actually warming up to the prospect of taking Nix if we don't trade up for Penix or Daniels. You just can't teach that kind of accuracy and he can run when he needs to. I'm out on JJ or the dude from Texas.

I say draft a QB every year until you get it right.

Believe me @DonkeyKilla knows that McCarthy is meh. He admitted it somewhat yesterday. ;)

He would work in a system like SF or Detroit maybe, but he's not going to carry a team on his back. Most likely his future in the NFL is as a back up and spot starter.

We're not getting 1.8 for the Pouter. Other than that, not a bad plan.

Honestly think we can lay back just a little bit and still get an ace in the form of Penix, Nix or even a dude like Ward at a less prohibitive cost. This draft is deep enough to where we're not going to have to move into the top 4 to get a stud.

Not saying we shouldn't have the mindset to move heaven and earth to get our guy. We should. Whatever it takes. But there's a really good chance Penix or Nix might turn out to be just as good or better than the projected top 3 (Williams, Maye, Daniels) and come at a lower cost.

Praying we don't fuck this up. Act decisively after due diligence. Don't whiff.

I'm not 100% convinced there isn't a path to Caleb Williams. I'm at least testing the waters there before committing to another plan. Other than that, I'm torn between Penix and Daniels but I think I'm probably biased towards Penix just by having watched him play way more than anyone other than Maye out of this draft class. That said, mobility at the QB position has become such an X factor. Bama wouldn't have even been in the game yesterday if not for Milroe running the ball. I guess part of that is because he sucks as a passer though, so I don't know. Even Nix seems like a guy you could build around and at least he can run a screen, something non-existent in Raider land since B.C.

Final answer? Just pick the right guy.

That's what I don't want to do... "settle". The Raiders have been doing that for longer than any of us want to remember.

Put your balls on the table and get the guy you want not the guy who falls to you or you can get cheaper. This team is going nowhere and it just has to stop. Try and get your guy. If it works it works. If not you're back at it next year or the year after.

The Rams haven't had number one pick in like 4/5 years. They're back in the playoffs after winning the super bowl. Wouldn't that be fun? Other teams fall down and get back up and get better in 1/2/3 years. We've been floundering for 40... FML.

Really need to decide on HC and GM first. You know what I want but who knows what the idiot will do. Assuming it’s AP and Champ, does AP like the offense Coughlin/ Gilbride ran with Eli or something else with the mobile QB.

Feels like Fields stays a Bear. If we didn’t fire McDaniel, we’d be discussing ( Spit shining) Mac Jones or Zach Wilson.

If I'm in the not settle mode I'm going all in on Caleb. I think there is something to his "list" and with Chicago supposedly starting to lean towards sticking with Fields, 1.1 is there to be had IMO. Stylistically, he's my preferred type of QB, someone in the Russell Wilson/Mahomes model of being able to run around a bit and then launch a deep ball.

Agreed. I'm just not convinced Maye or Daniels are the guys we necessarily have to be targeting when a guy like Penix might turn out to be as good or better at a lower cost.

Do the due diligence, make a decision and take fucking action. Can't be any other way. The time is now.

Thing is you can't be totally convinced because there are no sure things in the draft. You have to have the cojones to just do it. It'll work or it won't. What we've been doing isn't working so no sense continuing on that plan for another 40 years. I don't have 40 years! ;)
