Im going with the horse that has a bad leg.

I'm just hoping this horse has the gun and we don't need to shoot him.

Just go look at those 2004 stats on old long face and you'll feel slightly better. Hopefully he can play more like that, and not like he did in Miami.

Even if he's only 80-90% healthy, I think it'll be Pepper's job to lose once he gets the playbook down pat...

Of course all bets are off if I finally manage to coax Vince Evans out of retirement...

I said McCown because there is something just not right with Daunte.

Something is messed up. He's had a long time to recover but reports are he still isn't mobile.

What reports are saying his leg is still bothering him? I've only read that 1 article out of the San Diego Times Tribune that's mentioned anything to that effect. Have their been more articles on this???

Haven't you been reading AP's articles?

It's on there somewhere yesterday or the day before from Kiffin.

Unless I've missed a page of articles somewhere, I've only seen that 1 article out of the San Diego message board... and I believe AP posted it on here as well. Is that the only article? You figure with all the other beat writers following training camp, there'd be more than 1 article that happens to come from a San Diego message board.

Pepper will get most of the snaps/starts, IMO.

Although I will say, I really like McCown's attitude and athleticism.

If Walter is the odd man out, I won't shed a tear.

Here is the article again...

Culpepper hurting

His arm looks fine. And his understanding of the Raiders offense is improving. But Daunte Culpepper's surgically repaired knee remains an issue.

During this morning's practice, Culpepper looked like a quarterback uncomfortable when forced to move out of the pocket. Even defensive tackle Warren Sapp admited as much when asked about Culpepper's progress.

"Once he gets his legs back, then that's going to be the thing, because you play this game with your legs and your mind and everything else will follow," Sapp said. "If you got your mind straight and you're able to stand on your feet and you got good balance, everything else will follow. But he's hurting. You can see it. Certain instances when he (moves), you know, you can see it."

Coach Lane Kiffin said Culpepper will see action as the third quarterback in the team's exhibition opener Saturday night against visiting Arizona, behind Josh McCown and Andrew Walter. The likelihood of him winning the starting job for the season opener against Detroit appears remote _ because of his health and his limited time in the offense.

It even has a quote from Sapp. That is enough for me to question whether He is healthy enough to get the majority of the starts. Nobody has won the job yet and so it is not Culpepper's job to lose. I would rather he win it than have it be his job to lose. That is the theme of this training camp...competiition.

For the first six games of the season, his pay is similar to McCown's pay. Culpepper will receive $2.6 million and McCown $2 million so it isn't about the money.

Before Culpepper got here, the job was between McCown and Walter...so they seem something in McCown.

Culpepper has done nothing the last two years.

Since all we are doing is speculating since only Kiffin knows, it is enough for me to see the possibility of McCown getting more starts.

Its a good gamble either way. Pepp should get the same respect Newberry gets. He should at least be a good guy to help out our other less tenured QB's. If he gets back to decent playing shape he might win us some games. Im not expecting anything, but i am hopeful.

I am going to support Culpepper like I am going to support anyone that wears our colors. If he is the one that is chosen to lead our team, I want him to succeed. I am going to root for him. Nothing would please me more than to see him lead our team to the Super Bowl.

Since the question is who we think will get the most starts, my feeling based on what I see is what I put down. I don't love one more than the other. Whoever does the best job is what I want.

Same with me. I want the best player in there to help us win. Just seems to me there are issues with Culpepper's knee. It's been that way all last year in Miami and even though he's saying he's 100% I think it's clear he is not. Like AP says if he wears the colors and can help I'm all for him to start.

As for Walter I have given up on him a long time ago. He just doesn't seem to have IT. I know there are a lot of excuses for him but to me I just never saw him make the the kind of plays that made me say "wow". And any QB worth his salt would surely make a few plays -- you know the old "give a monkey a typewritter and he'll spell a word" syndrome.

Good old Joe Willie might have a thing or two to say about whether you need good knees to be an effective QB. Of course he has a thing or two to say about female sideline reporters when he's tipped a few back.

Culpepper has really showed his effectiveness the past two years.
