What's your second- and third-round jihad?

Assuming we land a defensive lineman in the first round (Long, Dorsey), who do you want in the second and third rounds?

For the second round I love Beau Bell (and wouldn't mind putting him inside and moving Kirk Morrison outside, or using a three-man line with Long/Warren/Kelly, with Burgess moving to OLB).

For the third round, Darius Reynaud is really climbing up my wish list. In a run-run-run offense, the guy has been a very solid, sometimes spectacular, receiver. He's got wheels and reasonable size (5-10, 205). Though, I also like the idea of hawaiianboy's boy, Jordy Nelson (though I wonder if we're done with the big, slow guys).

I think Long or Dorsey, with Bell, would make this a very flexible unit.
 
I wish we had a third rounder.


I lie Frank Okam to slide into Rnd 2.
 
I think Okam could fall to Day 2, personally.


I could honestly see going DL-DL in the first 2 rounds. It won't happen, but I would definitely consider it. Red Bryant or Dre Moore would look pretty good next to Long or Dorsey.


An OL certainly wouldn't offend me. Impossible to call right now which ones will be there. Never would have figured Marcus McNeil would fall into our laps, so...ya know. This time, we pounce on the opportunity to get a 1st round OT in the 2nd round.
 
My round 2-3 jihads are pretty clear cut at the moment: Trenches.

I like Jeff Otah, King Dunlap, Alex Boone and Dunae Brown along the OL.

I like Red Bryant, Chris Ellis and Kenny Iwebema along the DL.

If we go for skill, I gotta figure Early Doucet would be a nice guy to bring in as a target for JR.

I'm so sick of talking about the draft in November when we should be talking about meaningful football games on Sunday's.
 
Football season has run from Feb to October for far too many years. Maybe next year....
 
I have a feeling a nice OLB will be available.
 
If a D-lineman dosn't happen in the 1st round, I think I'd be looking for Red Bryant in the 2nd round.

Space-eater from A&M with a work ethic. We simply have to add a DT this spring, one way or another.

How about a 2nd round WR? Mario Manningham? haven't really paid attention to the WR's. A true deep threat for Jamarcus would be nice. be nice to see Johnnie Lee assume this role.
 
WR has to be on the Raiders radar.

I knew two years ago this position was going to be problematic and now with Porter ready to go it's even more problematic. Curry isa a nice possession receiver although his drops this year are troubling. Higgins? I dunno the guy doesn't seem to be much use. We need a target for Russell..who's it gonna be?

I think Russell has targets already. If he is the real deal, every player on our offense is a click better, receivers included. Top QBs make their targets better. I like the TE he can throw to, the fullback he can throw to, and Curry. Still need one for sure, I just don't think the cupboard is completely bare.

Higgins is an unknown to me. Woulda been nice to see him get some more action, but he's a 3rd rounder from UTEP, I'll give him some time.

But we have the roster room to add another body or two, a Kevin Curtis-type would be nice.
 
Yeah, a Zach Miller/Ron Curry/JLH/draft pick seems like a competent staff of receivers to me, if only Curry can stay healthy.

I'm still on Darius Reynaud, though. Just don't like Manningham's attitude.
 
What does anybody see in Higgins right now. He's shown nothing either as a return guy or a WR. I hope it wasn't a wasted pick. We have some horses there at WR but we don't have a real #1 who can be a difference maker. Curry is a possession receiver who has developed the yips for some reason -- way too many drops. I doubt Porter is going to be here next year. That kinda thins the barn a little too much for my tastes.
 
Most receivers don't show much in their first year, though.

We know he's shifty and we know he's fast. We also know he was productive in college. The light may never come on for him in the NFL, but the organization believes in him enough to keep him around (unlike Morant, Gabriel, Moses and M. Williams), so obviously there's some faith in his ability. Not enough to play him ahead of a veteran like Tim Dwight, but at least some.

Curry, Madsen, Miller, Griffith, Huggy (if he stays), Dwight (if he stays), and eventually Higgins. We may not have the personnel for a spread offense, but we have several short-to-intermediate receivers who can make plays. Definitely need another WR. But as for receivers in general, we're not doing too bad.

Yep.

The source doesn't help my case any, but the idea still holds merit. Freddie Mitchell once said that Randy Moss fucked things up for every rookie WR after him. All of a sudden, WRs went from being an understood developmental player to being expected to make an immediate impact. While Freddie and his great hands never made that impact, we all know that the 3rd year for WRs is still the typical point in their career when they become what they were expected to be. Asking the 99th pick in the draft to step in a perform right away was a bit unrealistic of us, myself included.

I think we'd also have to remind ourselves of that with any rookie we bring in this offseason. WRs are like QBs. They're investments for the future in most cases. Any immediate return on those investments is just icing. The cake comes later.
 
whether we do DLine or not in round 1, i'd love to see us take Red Bryant in round 2

if not him, maybe a guy who could fall out of the 1st like Craig Steltz or Gholston

maybe a top shelf WR that can slip would work too

most of all, i hope we can get some deal to bring in a 3rd round pick somehow
 
I've decided. In Rd1, we take either Dorsey or Ellis, then take Bryant in Rd2. Our DTs are absolutely brutal. This move would change the dynamic of our entire team, and might even limit LT's access to the inner areas of our colon.
