It looks like old Al is driving a hard bargain with any potential Randy Moss suitors. He want's a 1st or possibly no less than a 2nd and so far no takers, hence the holdup. Given his penchant for injury, poor attitude, and age, not to mention his lack of production over the last two seasons I'd take as low as a 4th rounder for Moss but I'd like to hear your takes.

Forget a 4th, because Al isn't us.
He's opted to sit a highly paid player rather than admit a mistake (Burlein, Marcus). I'd take a 3rd and a player or late second alone, but Al won't. He'll keep Moss first.

Nothing. Cap relief (not to mention "attitude" relief) alone is worth it for me. Draft picks and/or players are just icing on the cake. We made a mistake with Moss, plain & simple. Time to cut bait whether we get compensation or not.

Of course Al will probably shock all of us and actually get some decent compensation for this cat. Say what you will, but Al can wheel & deal with the best of em'

I think we can get a second before the start of next season. Especially if a star WR goes down.

I'd go as far as cutting him if there aren't any takers.

I think peoples like or dislike of moss is highly skewed right now

if the guy goes out and plays like i know he can play then ive got no problem keeping him. in fact im all for keeping him

if we get offered something that i cant refuse for him however... id move him.

Thanks Lang but if the opinion about Moss is "skewed" right now it's totally because of him and well deserved. the guy basically quit trying. that alone would be enough to skew my opinion. not sure how that can be inturpreted any other way. "playing like you know he can" is a world away from him actually going out and doing it and it's a risky proposition to keep him on the roster with the hope that he'll come around.

When are we going to hear from Moss. His comments alone will affect this whole thing. If he comes out and demands a trade we are gonna be in real bad shape. At the same time maybe Moss likes Kiffin and he think's we might draft a guy who can get him the deep ball. This whole situation is crazy Moss could still be the best reciever in the NFL or he might be a washed up loser? Crazy shit. With no free agents left we might as well keep him rather than cut him...

Question...

If you cut a player past the trade deadline is over with, during the season, does the team that claims waiver rights, have to pay the contract "said" player was originally signed to? Or is a new contract worked out?

You're talking about two different things. Cutting a player means their contract is voided and any guaranteed money associated with that contract is accelerated in the same season's salary cap and any non-guaranteed money (i.e. base salary) is taken out of the cap.

Waiving a player means you have placed that player on the waiver wire under his current contract. The waiver period is something like 2 -- 3 days. If he goes unclaimed, then he clears waivers and his guaranteed money gets accelerated and his base salary taken out of the cap, just as if he was cut.

If a team claims a waived player the team would then assume that player's contract. Contracts are broken down over 16 game seasons. So if the guy played 4 games during the regular season and was waived, then picked up by another team, that team would then have to pay him his weekly salary based upon the terms of his contract.

Thanks RN..

I just wondered if there was a way to to "f**k" a player (Moss) if he didn't want to play for us anymore, via the waiver wire.

You know, cut him late, and he get's picked up by a worse team..

Thanks for the news....

I'd pretty much do what he's doing. I'd posture and act like Moss isn't really on the trading block b/c he's still in his prime and with the new coaching staff and "explosive offense" he's going to be a G again... but I'd listen to any offer that included a top 15 1st round pick and/or an All Pro. With free agency spending completely out of control, his cap figure is a bargain and so a team is going to have to offer up the house as compensation for paying him such a relatively low salary based on the new salary scale... at least that would be my angle. I'd also predict that if I were in charge, Moss would probably retire a Raider... possibly as soon as this offseason. ;)

As I stated in a previous thread, there really is no sense of urgency to trade Moss at this minute. These inflated deals being paid to the likes of Drew Bennett, Welker, Dan Graham etc only play more into our hands.
