What do you guys think of Dante Stallworth?

I saw Tron's post in the Lil' Kif thread, this guy hadn't crossed my mind, but the word is he'll be freed by the pats becasue the escalators in his contract made it essentially a one year deal.

I kinda like him... maybe the most ideal of the prospects out there. Probably the most dangerous guy available speed-wise. I think he has more talent and accomplishment than a Berrian. He's not a nut job like Ocho, and he doesn't have serious longterm medical questions like Walker, although he is frequently dinged.

Plus he's not "elite" and has no case to make for himself as such in the salary department, and won't require draft pick compensation.

Could be a good fit... funny no one's mentioned him yet.
 
I liked him coming out of college but he has had some serious long term hamstring problems over the years, though he may have found a program that changed that up some .... Bay Area guy right?...
 
I dunno where he's from, but he seems to have stayed healthy this season. I don't recall him having alotta dumbass drops or real problems with the recieving part of his game.

Him and Berrian are basically the same size(Tim Brown size), both just turned 27. At least he makes the pickings at WR more interesting.

Don't care much for his hairdo... for some reason I find those flowing rastas kinda irritating :D

Stallworth is a good team player too. The problem is (like you said) he's injured often. But the guy is a major deep threat when healthy. He wouldnt cost the farm because he didnt put up crazy #'s this season behind Welker and Moss. I like Berrian but Id take a Manningham/Stallworth back-up deep threat. I even think B.Johnson can be a deep threat here.
 
If we're going to drop coin on a burner, spend the money to get Berrian. Stallworth is an injury waiting to happen. He's something else when he's healthy...and can get off the line. But, overall, he doesn't exactly help much.

Do you really think we'd have to drop alot of coin for Stallworth? If Berrian is wanting 8 million per year than I'll have to pass on him. Just not worth it IMO and I like the guy.
 
8 mill for a guy who'll probably give us 16 games, or 3-4 mill for a guy who might give us 8.

Hmm.

One is just reaching his prime. The other can't get past "pri" without pulling up lame.

Again I say: Hmm.


Also, that 8 mill figure is misleading. If the guy is signed to a 5+ year deal, he's unlikely to eat up 8 mill of our cap at any point until like year 4.

Berrian was asked after Sunday's season finale if being near home would be a factor. "You always want to be around your family," he said, "but they know what type of business I'm in. I have to be where I want to be." Bears GM Jerry Angelo didn't rule out applying the franchise tag to Berrian but indicated it would be done as a last resort.
 
Just the kind of guy we would overpay for. If we're going to dish out that kind of loot, I'd rather it be for Chad Johnson who at least brings an impressive resume and credentials. Has Berrian even gone over 1,000 yards once?
 
Berrian in the NFL for 4 years = 13 TD's

Stallworth in the NFL for 6 years = 31 TD's

Stallworth = More productive, less reliable
Berrian = Less productive, more reliable, More Money/Attitude

Shit how many Wr's had more TD's than that this season! I like Berrian dont get me wrong. But his name and terms like "franchise tag/top 5 WR" should not be in the same sentence.
 
id take Stallworth over Berrian every day of the week.

Yeah, Stallworth's been a lot more productive, and he's only a month older than Berrian(both just turned 27).

I can't recall Stallworth ever being a distraction or a lockerroom pissy-bitch either(I don't know that Berrian ever has?), so that's a plus.

I just see these guys as very similar, but Berrian's is going to be the top FA WR this offseason, whereas Stallworth will be somewhere lower on the payscale... which is a good thing because frankly I don't see either of these guys emerging as a true #1.

Dont count me out on Berrian. I do think he could come here and play well. Hopefully he can be signed for a decent amount and id be really excited. Just dont wanna spend the farm on a #2 trying to become a #1. Id rather get Roy Williams/Fitz and pay crazy money.
 
Pay crazy money for a guy who you already know probably wont give you 16 games? Sorry, man. That's just flawed logic.

Those guys may be all around better players. That's not the question. But their durability is questionable at best, and Legend has already demonstrated a suspect attitude. I have yet to see either in Berrian.

I just want someone who can play, play hard, won't be a cancer, and is reliable. I'd pay extra if I could get all of those qualities in one guy.
 
I think that you can argue that even though they are similar in age, you'd be signing Bobby Berrian (there is only one guy called Bernard on this here BB!) on the come... he clearly is an ascending player...


I think it's Raider economics 101... if we bankroll someone like Corey Williams or Justin Smith on the defensive end, then someone like Stallworth or Hackett becomes more feasible for the Raiders as WR options... The Seahawks or the Redskins could easlily shop in both aisles, but the Raiders would be the dude sporting all the fugazzi bling whose wad of cash consisted of a single hundred dollar bill wrapped around 50 one dollar bills... Kind of like Byron at a strip club...


Signing Berrian would be a good get from the standpoint that the Raiders situation was actually attractive enough to lure a top free agent into the fold...
