It wasn't the Collts but it's a start.

Some good things happened today. It's difficult to ascertain if it was more about the Cardinals or if the Raiders improved that much. Next week will give us some indication.

In any effent, the OL looked a lot better today. In fact they seem to be playing better the last three weeks. Gallery is still having some issues but I'm really encouraged about Boothe. Hmmmm...seventh round pick.

Defense really appears to be about two DL away from really being good. I think we have to find a way to get Huff to FS and find a SS ... maybe Darnell bing can be the answer there. Huff is pretty average out there at SS. I just don't think he's cast right there.

In any event, a win is a win and I'll take it. F*ck 0-16...

Walsh ran out a good game plan. Essentially, it was very much like the Cleveland game plan. The big difference was coming out throwing in the second half instead of running.

I'm definitely tweening on Huff. Is he or isn't he a SS? I'll wait until he's had an off-season as a professional before passing judgement. Right now he and Stu look like their roles should be reversed.

Agreed. Props to Walsh on a well called game...

He's about as far from a SS as it gets. He's closer to a CB than a SS. Even on his safety, he had help, but was credited with the takedown.

I think he can be very good, but not at SS in this league. Not a lot of 6 foot 190 pound SS around those parts.

Schweig had a very good game, BTW.

A lot of our success had to do with Arizona's ineptitude. I told everyone in my preview that their line was susceptible to penetration. They're installing a Zone scheme and they look a lot like we did last year with the scheme, more than a bit disjointed.

We were successful running at the edges. And even though I didn't get a good read at how to attack their secondary, I knew the numbers said we should have success. We'd have looked a lot better without all the drops.

Our D really stifled them. It was great to have Fabs back. He really kept them bottled up. We only really got hurt in zone coverage, like I predicted. But our pressure really make a difference.

I'll have the next preview up Tuesday.

I thought Huff was listed at 6-1 205. Regardless, it's dense muscle, not bulky. I think he really needs a solid season of targeted weight training to get him to a better playing weight without losing his speed. 215 or 220 would be better. He might still gain an inch in height since he's young. 6-2 225 is a good size for a SS. Though, who wouldn't want a guy 6-3 at 235? Huff will never be that guy.

I'll reiterate what I said in the game thread. Walsh called a very good game. Looked like he was going for the jugular all game long. I thought we should have tried to rund the clock down in the 4th but other than that, it was a good game plan. I liked the way Walter spread the ball around today.

The defensive play was about as good a Raider effort I've seen in quite some time. Hell, when was the last time we had a safety? If we can get another interior lineman and another edge guy, move Huff to FS, we could be a very dominating defense.

I hate to piss on anyone's parade, but Gallery reverted back to his old ways today. He was a dark cloud on an otherwise pretty good effort by the OL today.

So with Hasslebeck possibly out for next week, do we have any chance of sneaking into Wash and stealing one?

Actually, we face Pittsburgh next week. But with Roethlisberger probably with a concussion, he might be riding the pine.

Gallery was back to timing his pass protection. Diving late thinking the ball would be gone. Shell talked about that early in the season. Guys have to block until the whistle. Gallery was acting like a diving block would help. Walker looked much better this week after watching last week. I think it lit a fire under him.

I thought Walter hung on to the ball a little longer than usual today so not all the sacks were a result of OL breakdown. I'd like to see him step up more when the pocket is collapsing but that will all come with experience.

I don't know that Walter held onto it longer than normal. He's done that on a lot of his sacks. Either way, stepping up or throwing it away will come with time. I did like his escape and deep throw. Awesome.

I didn't realise he was 23. Thought he was still 22. I gained an inch in height after 21 from 6-1 to 6-2. Men don't stop growing until age 25, so growth is still possible. Now, I have to guard against going the other way. True, Huff doesn't have broad shoulders, but neither did I until I hit 30 and started working out differently.

Good point.

Growing after 20-21 isnt very common though, and like you said, he doesnt have the type of structure to pack on a ton of weight.

I'll take solid play from his 200LB frame though... ;)

I guess I'm not feelin' the Huff hate. It's his first year, you guys. Chill. Sheesh. Were you expecting Polamalu?

I dont mean to hate on the guy, but top 7 picks as safeties should make bigger impacts.

Roy Williams: Animal in year one, with 5 INT's 100 tackles and plenty of nasty hits

Ed Reed: He's Ed Reed. As a rook...5 int's and a couple blocked punts

Sean Taylor: Numerous big hits, and a few INT's and sacks to boot...

I just havent seen any big plays from Huff...Its been the opposite; He's whiffed on more highlights than he's made.

Im underwhelmed to say the least (Im not giving up on him though, as a whole our secondary is the most talented in the NFL)

Polamalu also didnt start until his second year (Where he had 5 INT's and 100 tackles)

I think Huff will be fine, he'd be better at FS though, no doubt about it.

So shouldn't Huff be getting props for being ahead of Polamalu on the learning curve?

Don't forget, the Raiders have been throwing a ton of information at this kid. For a rookie, they're asking a LOT of him.
