Welcome to the team ... Tyree Wilson 🧐

He sucked last year though  a year older Chando wasn't going to be an improvement, coming off another injury too.
I think they are full of shit. They drafted Wilson thinking the foot would be ok in time for camp (remember that goal post moving?) and thought he would have more impact than he has IMO and are now saying they never expected him to contribute this year.

I'm not saying I agree with it, just that I assume that was the thought process for taking a contribute later guy.

Camp or no camp, I see a guy that needs at least a year in the weight room to maximize what he theoretically brings to the table. I'm not making excuses for JMD or Ziegler either, but it's a pretty fine line to walk between showing guys like Maxx, Adams, etc (Mark Davis). that we intend on competing while executing the proper rebuild that this roster needed. The idea is defensible, the implementation is not.

They went "all in" last year with Adams and Jones, and this year took a measured approach but one that still deserved criticism. Some of the moves are just running in place- replacing the entire DT rotation hasn't panned out so far. Not upgrading the interior of the line has been a problem. And taking guys like Meyer who's been MIA and a gadget WR with other glaring needs is just dumb.

They're under pressure to show they can build a team, and I listened to McDaniels press conference from Wed and it's obvious he knows they have to show some player development.

It sounds strange to say about someone taken so highly, but the Raiders would have been fine with Wilson not starting a single game as a rookie.
Even if he didn't start he was expected to contribute at some point and not look like a scrub bust. Looks terrible so far, but it's still early.

But Jones has missed the first two games of the season for personal reasons and was placed Wednesday on the non-football illness list. That has disrupted the Raiders’ plan for Wilson. It’s unclear how long Jones will be out — he’ll now be sidelined for at least the next four games — and that will inevitably accelerate the timeline for the 23-year-old Wilson. Suddenly, he has gone from a luxury pick to someone the Raiders need to step up quickly.

Even if Jones hadn't gone nutzo, this defense couldn't afford a luxury pick.

Fair. Still frustrating. I want one or the other.

I get it, he’s working to get acclimated and development rushed due to Chandler Jones being MIA

Yet in coming weeks, Wilson has to show something. Flash some of his potential…

ā€œRaiders coach Josh McDaniels on rookie DE Tyree Wilson ā€œI still think we’re in the phase of kind of working towards what he will ultimately beā€Noted there’s an element of missed reps to his development thus far & said there’s a lot of young guys going through that same process

Such an abysmal last decade. And truth be told, if you want to go back *another* decade…results would probably be similar.

Why did I put this link in the Tyree thread? Cuz it’s emblematic of why are results have been so atrocious. Picking this guy…when stud Jalen Carter was there? Unbelievable. Picking Clelin Ferrell when Josh Allen was there? Head scratching. Picking Abrams, Arnette, Conley, Michael Huff, etc., etc., etc. when so many players were better options? Hate to say this…but you almost have to *try* to be that bad.

Only way out of this year-after-year-after-year merry go round of dismal results is obviously better drafts. Really thought Zieg had ā€˜the goods’. But picking Tyree, Butler, etc., (albeit early) has me seriously wondering.

You're ass hurts so hard. Granted it has nothing to do with your post. I'm just triggered that you quoted me. Mostly because I'm not afraid to acknowledge that someone quoted my post that might be 100% not correct. Granted, that ever stopped anyone else to spew bullshit, but...

I have no idea what you're talking about. Sorry to have triggered you.

Would be good to know what 40 time Wilson has. But water under the bridge

DE are becoming faster

2018 Edge — Height: 6-foot-2, Weight: 253, 40-Yard Time: 4.85

2023 Edge — Height: 6-foot-2, Weight: 244, 40-Yard Time: 4.8

The edge rushers have gotten lighter by nine pounds while their speed has increased by .05 second. Of most significance are the numbers for the blue and red edge rushers in 2023. They are 6-foot-3 3/4 and 265 pounds and have a 40-yard time of 4.66 seconds.

The best edge rushers have become bigger and faster, while the offensive tackles have stayed the same. The numbers validate what the eyes of experienced scouts and coaches see.
