Son in law is big Packers fan. Said super athletic guy but sometimes looks like he's thinking too much out there. Thought he'd benefit from getting next to his old college teammate.

He was known early in his career for some real boneheaded penalties, too. Ejected two separate times for pushing an opponent's coach/medical staff. I think he's chilled out a bit in the last few years though.
 
Posted a little about walker in the dean thread. But yes. Walkers biggest enemy has been getting out of his own way. Freaky athlete. Will make a dynamic play one second... then misdiagnose a coverage and give up a catch that he should have contested. In college he played more free. In the nfl hes been solid in run support and questionable in coverage. 100% playing next to dean who will handle the green dot - will let walker play more free again. At worst - he loses some nickel lb work to Chinn. But we paid him more than dean because his ceiling is higher.

Talked to a guy who is a GB fan. Said this guy was a knuckle head early on and they hated him and thought he was a bust. Said he got much better last few years. My take: he's a better Elandon Roberts, and Dean is a better Adams. The LB position improved this off season.

New Raider LB former 1st round pick Quay Walker 🏴‍☠️ His 84.9 tackling grade in 2025 ranked 4th among all linebackers. Walker had a career high 128.

He is still just 25 though and is a sure tackler… just needs to improve in coverage. He was a Captain for the Packers defense.
 
Perspective

New Raiders LB Quay Walker finished his ‘25 season with a missed tackle rate of 3.8%. That % doesn’t factor in his playoff game against Chicago where he missed 0 tackles.

Missed tackle rate of Raiders LBs last season:
Jamal Adams: 15.1%
Elandon Roberts: 10.5%
Devin White: 9.8%
 
Some history leading to this question, who plays where? Walker keeps saying that Rob is going to use him the right way.

In college, Walker played on the weak side and Dean played on the strong side in Georgia’s 3-4 scheme. Dean led the unit.

His first 2 years in GB, Walker played on the weak side in GB’s 3-4 scheme, starting as a rookie. The next 2 years, Walker played MIKE in GB’s 4-3 scheme wearing the green dot.

His first 2 years in Philly, Dean played MIKE in Philly’s 4-3 scheme. He played ST as a rookie. Although he won the staring MIKE spot, he got injured and only played 5 games his 2nd season. In Fangio’s 3-4 scheme, Dean played 15 games on the weak side. He earned the green dot last year but only played in 9 games due to injury.

So, both Walker and Dean have played 4-3 MIKE and weak side ILB in a 3-4. Both have worn the green dot. Do they go back to their college positions? Do they flip flop in Rob’s new 3-4 scheme? And who wears the green dot?

Walker is bigger, faster, more athletic, but over thinks things. Freeing him from the green dot might be good. Dean is far better in coverage, earned high praise in Philly, but can he hold up taking on more blocks playing the strong side?

Dean definitely gets the dot. He's the one lauded for his mind. Walker, not so much. Who gets the dot when Dean gets hurt? Eh. Probably have to be Walker, which will probably result in a dip in overall defensive performance.

Hopefully we add some depth at some point. Someone with a brain.

#Raiders LB Quay Walker contract:

3 years, 40.5M with 28 million guaranteed (7.25M signing bonus). Entire 2026 (7.25M) and 2027 (13.5M) salaries guaranteed. Following cap hits:

2026: 9.66M
2027: 15.9M (11M save per 6/1 trade, 15M post 6/1 trade. No savings if released)
2028: 14.9M (12.5M save pre or post 6/1 release or trade)

At core it’s a 2 year, 28 million deal with team option for 1 year, 12.5 million in 2028.

I see Dean on the weak side with the dot.

I actually think eich might be the backup guy. He started getting more run at the end of the year.

Crosby/paye - koonce
Dean/walker - eich.

At least this year. Premium picks are going to supplement the trenches and grab doza. Maybe a wr pick if one we love is there.

A vote for flip flop.

Any chance of hybrid? Dean and Walker playing both weak side and strong side depending up the defensive call, correlating with run support or coverage needs.

How is his pass defense? Assuming we're playing split safeties, MLB is going to have to cover.

Above average for Dean. Walker has some issues but its good in man to man scenarios.
