Welcome to the team - Keyron Crawford

Heading into the draft, Messidor was mentioned as a likely 1st round Edge but Crawford was not mentioned, as BR.net did not expect a Day 2 Edge, including due to a perceived inability to trade Wilson to clear a roster spot and Edge snaps.

Landing Crawford—the last good pass rusher per Arif & Zierlein—in the 3rd might be SpyGuy’s favorite pick per Steelers Depot. Steelers Depot gave Crawford, not only the same grade as Messidor, but also thinks he has higher upside.

Crawford was like a wtf when I initially saw the pick and then upon further inspection was probably the best pick we could have made in that spot.

Yeah I think most of us didn’t do any work on edge guys.

He looks awesome in his snippets and we lose Koonce next year. Replacement in house now.

Raiders 3rd-round pick Keyron Crawford, DE/Pass Rusher, recorded a safety on just his second snap during his first high school practice. That moment convinced him to play football his senior year.

Same. Yah I'm like there's the wtf pick, then I looked up the rave reviews on the kid. Him and Stukes are my favorite picks second to Ferdy.

We pasted over Barham for Zuhn. Crawford is basically the same guy as Barham, so I’m ok with Crawford.

Think barham could do more "off ball" things where I see Crawford as more of a real edge. But I get the comparison.

And yeah - I didnt see us going edge early with signing koonce and paye along with having some end of roster guys like snowden/jackson/davis hanging around. But I did a little work on early round guys in case we traded maxx and late guys as gambles. Saw Crawford in the faulk tape and made note of him but figured we had higher priorities. Figured he would be in the bulk of that 2nd tier that wouldn't make it to day 3. And I was right. It just happened to be us that grabbed him.

Hope he sticks. Keep wanting to call him Keyrock after the unfrozen caveman lawyer

Looks like they want to get creative with the pass rush with guys that can drop or rush.

I think it has always been easier to find guys that can fit in a 3-4 OLB role than find a DE that can set an edge and rush a QB. Guys that might be undersized for a traditional DE role but are more athletic.

Max looked for all the world like the second coming of Ted Hendricks when he came into the league and I think he for sure was athletic enough to drop into coverage and cover a flat. He's probably still versatile enough to line up at OLB'er or DE.

Agreed on the creativity. That was part of the core of the Dick LeBeau D in Pittsburgh.

Thing is, anyone playing the front 7 must -- and I mean must -- be so solid at the run that backs know they will get drilled.

Why did the #Raiders draft Auburn EDGE, Keyron Crawford?

@CFB_Dalton explains why Crawford could make an impact early as a situational pass rusher in a loaded EDGE room.

Burst. Hand usage. 18%+ pass rush win rate.

#RaiderNation, how do you feel about the fit?

loaded EDGE room.
We have one of those?

"Loaded" is a more optimistic word than I would choose, but we do have some decent potential there. Maybe one of these guys will be able to take advantage of the attention Maxx gets.

Until proven otherwise we have one guy that is a plus player. Loaded is when you have more plus guys than you can play.

Steve Palazallo and Sam Monson (both guys used to be with PFF) did a detailed analysis of each division's draft. It's rock solid on available on youtube. Their analysis of this pick was really informative. First, they pointed out that when draftniks were looking at Faulk, Crawford was the one jumping out on tape. And it's true- he's faster, twitchier and gets in backfield like a blur. And his pressure stats were significantly better. He had a solid senior bowl as well.

The Raiders knew they were trading Wilson (who Tonka can replace), and Koonce is here for one more year. This kid may need some seasoning but the tools are there.

And Crawford hasn't even scratched the surface of his potential and he is already a pretty good PR.. Hopefully Maxx can take him under his tattoo'd wing and teach him some moves. By all accounts, he seems like a good kid and hard worker.

They are desperate for some pass rush opposite of Max.

We have seen these many times through the years, bring in a bunch of guys and hope someone steps up.
