Edge rusher with room to grow. Teammate of Faulk who went round 1.

Overview

Crawford is a stand-up rush linebacker prospect with plus athletic traits, but he’ll need more seasoning to reach his potential. He started playing football in his senior year of high school and is still developing both instincts and technique. The former high school basketball player has toughness to match his athleticism but isn't ready to set an NFL edge yet. He’s twitchy and rushes with ideal energy as a hungry quarterback-hunter. However, he might benefit from dialing back his constant acceleration and becoming more intentional with his rush. Crawford has special teams and situational rush value now, but his best football is still to come.

Strengths

  • Twitchy take-off getting off the snap and into his upfield rush.
  • Change-of-direction quickness to eat up a two-way go in the rush game.
  • Bendy lower half allows him to sink and trim the edge at the top of the rush.
  • Displayed improvements in his rush approach in 2025.
  • Good pop in his hands to attack blockers when technique is right.
  • Can give an aggressive re-route to tight ends getting off the line.
  • Played “Buck” edge position, showing ability to rush or drop and cover in space.
  • Above-average pursuit quickness to run and tackle in space.

Weaknesses

  • Has trouble getting off of pass punches that latch into his frame.
  • Needs to vary his rush tempo to reduce predictability.
  • Still developing rush counters to find more answers when stalled.
  • Inconsistent technique/discipline to set a sturdy edge.
  • Will start tackle tries from a distance instead of closing out the runner.
  • Below-average awareness and recognition as a run defender.

Sources Tell Us

“He was really late to football and that ‘Buck’ position asks a lot of the player in (Auburn’s) scheme. He got a lot better from (2024) to (2025) and I would expect him to keep improving. He hasn’t hit his ceiling, by any stretch.” - NFC area scout

Eh, it's...fine. A little early, not the super most immediate need (but very much a need), but the guy actually seems to be able to rush the passer.

Overview

  • Hometown: Memphis, TN
  • Birthday: October 17, 2003
  • Age: 22.5
  • Jersey: No. 24
  • High School: Briarcrest
  • Year: Fourth-year senior
A one-year starter at Auburn (and two-year starter overall), Crawford played the “Buck” edge defender role (mostly stand-up) in former defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin’s hybrid front. After two seasons at Arkansas State, he was a backup for the Tigers in 2024 before emerging in 2025 as one of the more disruptive players in the SEC. Despite rushing the passer on just 39.1 percent of his snaps, he notched a pressure on 17.8 percent of his pass-rush snaps in 2025 (No. 4 in the SEC and No. 12 in the FBS).

NFL scouts focused this past fall on the Auburn defensive line to see Keldric Faulk — and left buzzing about Crawford. He explodes off the ball with purpose and a growing repertoire of pass-rush moves. He lacks ideal length and lower-body power, and he feels undersized at times on tape, especially once bigger bodies latch onto him. But his effort consistently pops as a pass rusher, run defender and dropper.

Dane’s takeaway

Crawford is still learning what it means to be a technician, but he is a twitched-up defender with the compete skills and intriguing skill set to contribute right away. He offers role versatility and will fit 3-4 or 4-3 looks.

Post-Draft Analysis

The Raiders still have Maxx Crosby, but they need more pass rush off the edge because their free agent signing at the position -- Kwity Paye -- ranked last among all qualifiers in pass rush win rate at edge last season. Perhaps it will be Crawford, instead, who can deliver that complementary threat opposite Crosby. Last season at Auburn, Crawford had five sacks, a 16.7% pressure rate (15th best among all FBS players) and had an 89th percentile get-off among edge rushers, per Telemetry Sports. -- Seth Walder

Steelers Depot had a 2nd round grade on Crawford with an 8.1 grade. That actually would be BPA in the 3rd round.
