Welcome to the team - Jackson Powers Johnson

Say whatever about Burris. He played more than a handful of seasons in the NFL. He played was a Raider.

While a good portion is just his opinion, there are some solid points.

Playing as he has been as a rookie is rare. Name one rookie O-lineman you remember who came in with the power and nastiness AND PUT IT ON FILM EVERY SNAP that JPJ does. I'll wait.

The 'just invert your feet' comment shows his mind and body work together seamlessly. His recognition of stunts and line games is veteran good.

The running downfield on long plays is not trivial for an O-lineman, particularly how JPJ is built. His unison first down point with Meyers is one the best images of this season.

Being only 21 means he will get better. He needs to. On the one hand his pad level is consistently too high. He is not consistently getting his hands inside. Most players with those issues are ineffective, JPJ is a little better than NFL average.

The other thing Burris pointed out is that JPJ being so young means he can get stronger. What he did not say and matters more is that the kind of strength and conditioning work Maxx does would decrease the soft tissue injuries JPJ is having.

Playing every snap balls to the wall with his strength means he can hurt himself by moving to correct an error in technique/execution. Fixing technique and better flexibility with improved strength will transform JPJ into the guy who can do for the O-line what Maxx does for the D-line.

Okay.

After two games at G, JPJ plays with the same intensity, but it is not his position.

At C her is the first guy firing off the ball and playing to his strength -- which includes picking up line games. At G he must react to the snap and is less effective because he thinks. This is guy, with his prep, is better off not thinking.

Play him at C in 2025. Keep James as a backup if you wish. The rookie 2nd round vs James mild vet deal works cap-wise.

How many rookies are the team's first choice at C or either G. Yes, he had a bad play on the goal line at G. Bet he would have led to a TD at C.

He is decidedly not a guard. Maybe given time, but that time would be much better spent playing him where he performs best and letting him grow into something high caliber.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

Somebody tell the Raiders are not the smartest organization in pro football.

Right. And you and I both want that road-grader Barrett Robbins-type that we were deprived of due to bipolar disorder and Tijuana shenanigans.
