Welcome to the team - GM John Spytek

So, what’s this guy’s angle? How did he land this interview? Never seen or heard of this guy before.

He's a Tampa guy, does a lot of his stuff on the Bucs.

Kept wanting Spytek to come on.

No, you are doubly wrong. A two time loser!
Your idea of winning sounds a lot like Charlie Sheen circa 2011

Spyguy said it (see @ 31:08): BPA

There was not a plan to draft O over D. It is how their board fell. Sure, Spyguy listed multiple factors that went into ranking players and stacking the Raiders’ board (while need was not one of the factors listed, that does not mean need was not among the factors), but Spyguy was clear that he picked the top guy off their board each pick.

Yet, Gruden, McD and Red/JDR fucked if up (picked for need over BPA) time and again, no?

Man you loved some of those drafts too though!

I’m hoping Spytek finally got it right.

Okay, your grasps of history sucks. You have posted this crack busting my balls (in good humor) several times. And I have resisted responding.

But it gets old. So, now, I’m punching the school-yard Internet bully in the mouth.

Either fuck off or put your money where you mouth is and pull the posts. Don’t cherry pick.

If you opt to do the work and pull the posts, I’ll tell you what you’ll find, as I did the work:

Total return & ROI

Every year, I do the same exercise with Arif. I compare two things: total return and ROI.

When I have time, I list all 32 drafts (when I do not have time, I just list our AFC West rivals) and rank them by total return and post each team’s ROI.

Most every year, b/c of our lesser record and/or extra picks, we started with way more draft capital than some or all of our AFC West rivals. So, even though Gruden’s ROI repeatedly stunk, for example, per consensus Gruden’s drafts, if they broke to form (consensus), still would have improved our team more than our rivals’ drafts.

If Ferrell turned out like Russell Maryland (a reach but a 10-year vet), which was my posted hope based on his concensus low 1st round grade, and Day 2 prospect Mr. Salmon/Tone Setter himself was not a complete bust, the 2018 draft with Jacobs, Crosby and Renfrow would have landed us in the playoffs more than once. As it was, it was still our best draft class since 2014 even with those two 1st round whiffs. (As for Gruden’s next draft, I advocated for CB/WR sequence, which would have landed us both a Pro Bowl CB and WR. Instead, we got a murderer, who was not a bad pick, lol, and a Day 2 prospect, who I hoped played like one—Day 2 prospects still start—Arnette just turned out to be a shit head).

I never said our GM’s did a better job unless their ROI per Arif was greater than a rival’s ROI. That you can’t grasp or honestly report the difference between total return versus ROI is you just being a jerk. Fuck off.

Prospect Profiles

After Lang opens a welcome thread, I also post draft profiles. I post and compare both positive takes and negative takes, and project/opine on why I think our GM did what our GM did—that is, normally draft for need over BPA, and hope negative takes are wrong or, worst case, the prospects will play like where they were projected.

Zeirline, compared to Miller, compared to The Huddle Report, compared to Steeler Depot, compared to The Draft Network or Jeremiah or Buckey Brooks is largely immaterial to me in this regard. I report what I find if not already posted. With that foundation, I render the best spin I can in real time. Nobody thought Leatherwood, for example, would be a complete panty waste. Heck, Chi even picked up his 1st round contract, thinking this Day 2 prospect could be salvaged.

You Are A Liar With History

You will not find posts (in context), until Spyguy’s draft, that makes or supports the statement: “you loved some of those drafts too though!”

Emphasizing total return while reporting ROI, and emphasizing positive draft profiles and giving our brain trust the benefit of the doubt over reported negative draft profiles, is not “you loved some of those drafts.” Even my take on Telescope’s draft had a big caveat: We did not land a QB, in a QB rich draft. It was only after putting that anchor aside, did I emphasize total return and ROI of Bowers and JPJ.

As for Glaze and Richardson, I busted Telescope reaching as much as the next guy, but I also found positive takes on those prospects—Glaze due to the early run on OT and his success at the Senior Bowl (turns out a good take) and Richardson due to his size, RAS and willingness to tackle (turns out a lesser take so far).

But being honest with history is not what you do. And to be clear, busting people’s balls is okay. But your lying at my expense gets old, particularly b/c I put so much effort into breaking down drafts, just to have an asshole purposefully misrepresent my work.

So move on. Or fuck off. And if you chose not to move on from this nonsense, HG will have to threaten me again b/c I’ll stalk you like prior jackasses, which you purposefully are some times.
