Welcome to the team - GM John Spytek

Am I seeing something that isn't there, or does it look like Spytek is the guy running shit?

I'm not an expert on Carroll era Seahags, but I think this was how he operated with Schneider too who he all but hired. So that just seems to be how he operates with not overstepping the bounds.

He very much seems to be in control. However the comments about general consensus of a player being important I like very much. Tells me he’s listening to those around him and unless everyone is onboard we are not taking a guy. We are not going to have some OL Coach pound the table and get his guy while 4 others are not on board.

I don't want coaches, HC, Assistant, o-line, quality control- any of them, deciding who to pick. Yeah, Parcells had the "pick grocery" line from decades ago, but coaches need to coach. GMs need to see the big picture- short and long term. HCs or GMs picked by HCs make awful decisions.

How many mistakes would Gruden not have made had he applied this rule?

All of the coaches should have given their input long before draft day. The position coaches give a list that says "I want these guys in this order" to the OC and DC. OC/DC organize that list against their own and give it to the HC and GM, who build their own list from it. They should be more or less in sync on their plan going forward. HC/GM make the decision on draft day, without input from any of the other staff. The only way they should talk to anyone else is if they are coming up to their pick and need to decide between specific positions on O or D, then the OC/DC are asked their opinions. Not their demands or picks, just their opinions.

You think that’s how it works in Las Vegas? :chuckle:

One way or another Spytek played the media this off-season. He had big time guys saying ‘they are not taking Jeanty even if he is there’ and like half a dozen big time guys going with Banks last minute like something leaked. From the looks of it we wanted either Jeanty or Graham to drop and we had a bunch of smoke going out in other directions.

I dunno, it seems like if Jeanty didn't fall, then Banks would have been the guy. Fortunately we'll never know.

We didn’t draft a QB but getting Bowers and Jeanty, guys who look like future (or current in Bowers’ case) NFL Blue Chip, cover of Madden type of players. That’s how good teams, teams that are good for a a long period of time are built. Kinda Ravens like. Jeanty is an immediate rookie of the year candidate.

Just need the QB that those teams have now.

Consensus T3 talent. Would have fell past #6 if Plan B was not T15 prospect (Banks) who got picked early (#9) due to lack of depth at premium position.

BTW, there was more consensus that Jeanty is a T3 talent than Banks is a T15 prospect. IDK why our brain trust was not into #7 pick Membou, a T7 prospect but with more variance than Jeanty too.
