Welcome to the team - CB Darien Porter

He’s old. He will be 25 when season starts. And he’s still learning the position

Good pick but age a concern
This was the biggest concern I had with him as well as with Zah Frazier who has a similar build although not the same speed. Both older dudes. Still worth the shot though

We should have him contributing in the secondary by year three when he's 28, lmao.
If he’s good to go as a starter in year 2 or 3 it’s all good. He doesn’t turn 25 until Jan 2026 so he won’t be 25 at the start of the year.

I think the comp for what we may see if all things go right would be Josh Norman. A guy who was older 24 when he was drafted and took a year or two to fully develop. Flashed red hot for a few years and the kinda flamed out as he hit 31-32. Norman was actually older than Porter is by a few weeks in relative terms to age when the entered the NFL. If we can get 5-6 good years out of a 4th round picks it’s not a bad selection.

With his size I wonder if he could be a Kelce killer, or negate any of these bigger stud TEs
I think the days of the Kelce Killer as a need are coming to an end. Not saying Kelce isn’t still a solid TE but after 10 years of trying to find a guy that can cover him he’s finally slowing down enough where we may be able to just “cover him” without having some dynamic CB/S do it.

“Hopefully”

The good thing is even if he loses some speed as he gets older, he will still be faster than a lot of guys younger than him.

You want to hit on your Day 1 and Day 2 picks. Hitting on a couple of Day 3 picks is gravy.

It’s why trading down on Day 2 comes with a lot of risk. We ended up with two extra comp 3rds and a comp 4th but that normally is outside of starter zone, and we diluted our chances for Day 2 starters.

Bech likely is a starter; however, he’s far less dynamic than expected, which is why Thornton (gravy) makes so much sense.

Porter likely will become a starter, but now? We sacrificed a more pro ready CB for an older CB with ridiculous traits and tape of 7 games.

For what?
  • Rogers: Competition/OL depth
  • Grant: Possible future LT/current swing OT
  • Hemingway: A possible practice squad tweener (glad we landed Pegues as I like him more)
5 darts > 2 darts… we’ll see.

Rogers will be a starter at some point this season. Cappa fucking blows. Obviously Raiders are extending Kolton or they would have dipped in the OT pool earlier. Any OT taken on second day or later is a back up/swing guy as you mentioned. Grant has all the measurables and the arm length :p

As I've mentioned ad nauseam here, I don't grade drafts until I get a chance to see these guys play. Most of the mediates liked the draft Fwiw.

Chose Porter instead of another freak CB who is still on the board: Shavon Revel Jr

You’re right. Carroll wanted the bigger athletic freak with good tape (even if only 7 games). Coach ‘‘em up!

Pete has done pretty well drafting DB's so I will defer to him on this selection.

Yep, I like the plan of giving Chip what he needs on O and Pete a DL and let him fix/coach the back 7. Wilkins’ health obviously is vitally important to winning this year. Hope he’s okay.

Yah same. I think if there was any doubt that Wilkins would miss a good part of the season, they would have addressed the position earlier. I just hope Vegas didn't get a lemon with Christian.
