Take it for what it is worth...

Volek update: The Chargers and the Chiefs have contacted the Titans about trading for quarterback Billy Volek, who is willing to waive his no-trade clause if an agreement is reached.

The Raiders have also expressed interest. The Chargers have offered a sixth-round pick.

"We are working on a few things, but right now I am a Titan and am going to try and help my teammates out," Volek said. "A lot of teams are looking for a standout quarterback who has good character ... . "

Volek kidded about traveling with the Titans to San Diego, and then not making the trip back.

Asked if a trade had already been worked out and the two sides are waiting for the game to be played, he replied: "No comment."

The trading deadline is Oct. 17.

Hmmmm...wonder which AFC West team he'll end up with?? :p

I think that I heard that he likes the Raiders and would like to be in California...take it for what it is worth though.

Not for nothing but if we wanted him, we do have an extra fifth round pick from the Gabriel trade that could trump the sixth by the Chargers.

He is signed through 2007 but I am not sure if 2007 is an option year or not.

Volek says, 'It's time to move on'

SAN DIEGO — Titans No. 3 quarterback Billy Volek returned to Nashville on Sunday night, but said it's "time for me to move on."

The Chargers, Chiefs and Raiders are interested in trading for Volek, who requested to be released or traded after the Titans signed Kerry Collins a couple of weeks before the regular season.

Volek is represented by agent Drew Rosenhaus.

"I haven't talked to Drew yet," Volek said Sunday afternoon. "We kind of gave this thing a rest through the week. Now I just have to wait and see. I have to do what is best for my career.

"Tennessee fans have been great for me, and now it is time for me to move on."

Volek said he never expected to get into Sunday's game.

Volek would feel right at home in Oakland...we're terrible just like his present team.

No way we sign this guy unless we cut Gilles the Clowsn. For what? The problem lies in the OL more than anything. Another QB = another dead QB.

Another quarterback for the future especially if we don't keep Brooks next season. If I remember correctly, his contract is one that is geared for one year although it is a two year contract.

Brooks got a front-loaded contract. Strange as that seems. I'm not for putting him back out there. The problem with getting Volek now is that he'd be the #3 for the remainder of the season. Would he be more viable than Tui? Doubtful. It would be nice to have him for next season since Tui is likely to be moving on, and Brooks looks like a lame duck.

I'm not ready to give up on Brooks altogether, but it really doesn't look like running him out there is going to substantively improve the offense at all. Who knows? If his 3rd game shows the kind of improvement his 3rd pre-season game did, maybe there's reason to hope. I just don't expect it.

I would trade Tui before the October deadline.

Chargers to send draft pick to Titans for QB Volek

The San Diego Chargers have agreed to send an undisclosed draft pick to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for quarterback Billy Volek, ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting.

ESPN.com's John Clayton reported that the Chargers had offered a sixth-round choice; the Titans were asking for a fifth-rounder in exchange for Volek. The two teams had been discussing a trade for a couple weeks until both agreed to wait until after Sunday's matchup between the teams because the Titans didn't want to move Volek to a team they were playing two weeks into the season.

Conversations resumed Monday with hopes of reaching a quick resolution.

Complicating the negotiations was a no-trade clause in Volek's contract. Though Volek asked to be traded after being demoted to third string, he controls where he would go and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, has to be involved in any trade discussion due to the clause.

The Chargers have only two quarterbacks on their roster -- starter Philip Rivers and rookie Charlie Whitehurst. They would like to add an experienced backup and keep three quarterbacks on the roster.

Nine teams have only two quarterbacks on the roster and the Chargers have the least experienced duo in football.

A Raiders QB in the current age is a dead man walking.
