Raiders have expressed interest in James Hall, DE Detroit.

Browns and Texans talking trade:

Now this one is interesting on several fronts. Supposedly, they are considering Carr and picks to move up to 3 and get Peterson. Now, it would take their 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Carr to get it done, I'd guess.

Mental masturbation time: Would you take that deal from the Texans? At 8, you might have your choice of Quinn, Branch, Levi Brown, heck maybe even Jamarcus if Cleveland were to take Quinn. It further makes me wonder, if we don't take Jamarcus, how far would he fall?

Michael Smith on ESPN said Garcia is going to Tampa.

We need to stay in the top three. Jr, Cj and AP. We need one of those guys!

If we trade Moss (and I like the Nips idea -- GB's #1 for Moss and our #2...) I think CJ will be our man.

Dolphins have interest in Trent Green

Jamal Lewis got cut

49ers may be looking to divorce themselves from Antonio Bryant (Always liked his game, but makes no sense for us).

The Detroit Lions have officially announced the release of OL Ross Verba

Dan Patrick apparently reports that Moss will be on the way to Green Bay once he restructures and the F.A period opens on Thursday night.

No linky dinky, just something I read.

Yeah, but I heard it's for a 4th rounder this year and a 1st rounder NEXT year.

(meh.)

Interesting. Assuming we keep the 1st rounder, it would certainly give us some ammo to move up in next years draft for a QB should we decide not to draft one this year.

Willis McGahee supposedly available for as little as a 4th?... Wants a big contract though...

I'd like that deal personally... The Pats built their team by acquiring future 1sts...

Interesting scenario... Their 2nd, 3rd and Carr to move back to 8?... I'd be tempted, but I'd try and push for their 1st next year instead of their 3rd this year... Ideally Quinn would be there at 8... If BQ is gone, I'd go Branch, though I'd call the Niners who are said to covet Branch and see if I could their 3rd to move back to their spot at 11... I'd then take Marshawn...

I could live with a 4th and a future 1st for Randy.

Assuming we do the trade and end up with 1,2,3,3(Cwood),4,4(Randy),5,5(Gabe),6,7

Does anyone know what point total a 3rd, 4th and future 1st could give us in order to trade?

Maybe back into mid round two?

PFT just stated (Lang has the blurb in the other thread)

that Moss for Rodgers is gathering steam.

Bleh.

Id rather have a 4th rounder and a conditional pick.

True.. I'd take just about anything for Moss right now, so if they're offering, I say we hit it. Maybe even trade that #1 and the #33 to move up and grab Lynch.

I'd rather have a 5th, and a kick in the onions.

I'd rather get a case of beer and a handjob.

Heh, I win.

Not from Rodgers though.

I'd rather have the future first than the past first... especially since, even in pre-season, Aaron Rodgers looked like stir-fried shit whenever he hit the field. If Rodgers is part of a trade that also includes a high draft pick, I'll be fine. If he replaces the draft pick, I'll be pretty pissed off.

From Draftsharks.com:

Matt Schaub linked to 2 teams
NFL insider John McClain told us that Falcons QB Matt Schaub "could end up with Oakland or Minnesota" when free agency starts Friday. Schaub, a restricted free agent, was tendered at 1st & 3rd round compensation, but any team can swing a deal with Atlanta directly. There had been rumors that Schaub might be headed to Houston but McClain poo-pooed that one. Have you ever heard of an NFL reserve generating so much buzz? He's only started 2 pro football games!

I agree with the last two sentences of that, mass. The guy has thrown 161 NFL passes, completing just 52% of them, and has a 1 to 1 TD/INT ratio. I just don't get the hype. A 1st and 3rd tender?

Hell, Scott Driesbach looked pretty damned good in pre-season, too...

This was an interesting blurb from PFT earlier today:

BEARS PLAYERS TELLING FREE AGENTS TO STAY AWAY

With Lovie Smith being the lowest-paid head coach in the NFL and no signs of any impending effort to provide him with fair market value, we're told that at least one veteran member of the Bears is telling at least one potential free-agent target not to sign with the team.

It could be a sign of things to come for the Bears, unless and until they get Smith's contract status resolved. We've previously heard that many veterans plan to refuse to do any contract restructurings or other business with the team.

The prevailing view in league circles is that the failure to pay Smith is the result of arrogance and general cheapness. The Bears are thought to believe that, if Smith goes, they'll find someone else to take the job.

The consensus in league circles is that, if Smith becomes available, he'll be in high demand.

In our view, it's not an ideal way to run a football team. But by opting to hold firm at $1.45 million in salary this year and $2 million or so for a new guy next year, the Bears are definitely saving money.

Until:

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/6517196

The Bears and Smith have agreed to a new five-year deal. The team is expected to make an announcement and have a press conference Thursday.
Smith was heading into the final year of the deal he signed when he joined the Bears and it grossly underpaid him at about $1.4 million. The new deal gives him a major, major bump in pay and puts him on the level of guys like John Fox, Jeff Fisher and other top-tiered coaches.

Smith's contract situation had been an issue all year long and shortly before the playoffs began, the Bears coach told FOXSports.com that he did not want to have any contract talks until the team's season was over.

There were rumors that the Bears had offered Smith a deal that averaged less than $3 million per year but those rumors were incorrect. They were far apart but not as far the last few weeks as many believed. Then last week his agent said there was a stalemate between the two sides. That stalemate, however, was bridged.
