Cant name my source on this but from the sounds a sark deal for HC is in the works.

They made progress on it today but Sark is the guy as long as the contract works out.

No info on who will be brought in for OC or anything on the Lofton front.

Damn it Lang. There you go again. That's "Premium" shit. It should be in the pay for read section. Now you're screwed up everything giving more stuff away for free. Sheese. Hard to make a living these days. .

EDIT: This is a joke! ;) -- There is and never would be a "Premium" BS thing around here. Just needed to clarify.

I think myself that Sark gets the HC job and Trestman is brought in to be the OC.
I think that maybe Lofton was interviewed for both the HC and the OC job?????? Keeping a Open mind.

Of course I think we keep Ryan as DC. I think Al is actually thinking like the rest of us, don't mess with it if it isn't broke......

I've heard from a source that cant be mentioned at this time that Lofton could be replacing Freddie B at WR's coach as well as being named Assistant Head Coach with Sark being HC. Our OC will be Trestmen.

I'm just the messenger. Although a late runner in the mix is New Englands OC Josh McDaniels. But word is Al is on Sarks nuts and wants to hurry this thing up as the combine is less then a month away. Keep your eyes peeled on the date of Jan 22 for our coach to be named.

If you drill Jan.22, you are officially an insider.

What's up with all these "sources that shall remain nameless":D Actually I like not knowing - it adds to the suspense.

I'd be down with Loften replacing Freddy. That dude is ancient and seems like more of a figurehead than a coach. Same with Willy Brown. I also like the potential of Loften being "assistant HC" so the young Sark doesn't feel quite so alone in the huge task of revitalizing this orgainzation. Trestmen took our offense to #1 for a couple seasons so it's hard to argue with that. Of course we had Rich Gannon at the helm then, but that's for another thread.

We shall see....You never know with Al. Next thing you know Tom Flores has the headset on.

Berry interesting...

As reported by Adam Schefter, Sarkisian and Kiffin were both in Oakland today meeting with Raider officials.

This is very interesting if true... I know the Sarkiffen duo was rumored to be upset with Pete Carrol's orders to stay increasingly conservative with Leinart having graduated, and there is also whispers that SC may be looking at probation with the Reggie Bush drama...

please be true. freddie needs a retirement package and a vacation on us. i respect his loyalty and would wish him the best, but i'm all for seeing him replaced.

so basically we could hire everybody we've interviewed so far unless NE's carroll wows us.

I'm thinking Kiffen is who Sark is presenting as his OC of choice, much the way Lofton presented Pete Carmichael as his during his interview with Al last year...

I'm just surprised Kiffen would be open to it, considering Carroll is his godfather and that would leave him coordinator less, though I had heard he was leaning to the OC from Jax that got let go should both current OC's get coaching offers...

The Sarkiffen pairing would be young and inexperienced as hell, but at least we'd know the offensive minds would be on the same page, more so if they add ex SC Oline coach Tim Davis... I wish I could dig up the article, but I read something about the two of them watching tape of every single NFL game last year to get red zone play ideas...

Being that these guys are joined at the hip, it would make sense and make a smoother transition IMO. I'd much rather have Kiffin calling the plays than Trestman.

I hope this is true

There's no doubt that at USC, Sarkisian has had the benefit of superior talent. He had Matt Leinart, and John David Booty, the elite quarterbacks in the Pac-10. Plus the top recruiting classes, the best receivers and the best linemen.

That didn't stop Sarkisian and Kiffin from collecting video tape of every touchdown pass thrown in the red zone over first several weeks of the 2004 NFL season, searching for a play, formation or wrinkle they could borrow, modify or steal.
Sarkisian was a quarterback at Brigham Young under offensive coordinator Norm Chow, started two years, led the nation in pass efficiency as a senior and led the Cougars to a Cotton Bowl win.

Thanks, my memory was a bit off... It was also in a USC article somewhere...

Trestman does bring almost 20 years of NFL experience to the table, so I wouldn't mind if he is on staff... The ironic thing is alot of SC fans dog on Sarkiffen as OC's, mostly because they aren't Norm Chow IMO... I've always found that anger misplaced because I thought Carroll was a bit too heavy handed and didn't give them carte blanche on offensive style... I think Carroll prefers to stay on the conservative end of the pool and run the ball and hope his defense produces turnovers... Sarkiffen probably leans to 3 and 4 WR sets and putting pressure on the defense...

Very interesting.Too many Trojans for my liking, but I think it could work.

If memory serves me correct he is a defensive minded coach....He was a little conservative with the Pats and they ran the same Bledsoe to Coats play over and over again. The WR's were almost ghost's on that team. Good doses of Curtis Martin and Robert Edwards.

I agree, I think the young bucks would like to open the offense up as I have read before.

Something interesting if we nab the SC guys; would be Al's philosophy this go round. He would be targeting college guys coming from one of the nations top program for the past five years and raping them. In years past Al went after the re-treads our in house guys and promoted from within. Gruden was basically the first young outsider yet had been established in the NFL for years. It would be a transition for these young guys, but I bet they have the passion and fire Al is looking for. They will not care about anything but the Raiders and will work long hours to get it right. I'm all for it.

USC connection means it's Sark's job

When Steve Sarkisian is officially named the 16th coach of the Oakland Raiders, he may as well ride in on a white horse.

One that goes by the name of Traveler.

If there were any doubts that Sarkisian is the man Al Davis has selected to lead the Raiders in 2007 and hopefully beyond, they were erased Thursday when Lane Kiffin arrived in Alameda.

Kiffin, 31, was the co-offensive coordinator at USC along with Sarkisian. A source confirmed that Kiffin was at the club facility to discuss the possibility of being the Raiders offensive coordinator.

Sarkisian, who met with Raiders late into Wednesday night, remains in town.

The way it works with the Raiders is a newly hired coach gets to make recommendations for positions on his staff. They are brought in and meet with Al Davis, who either approves the coach or makes his own hire.

It doesn't mean Kiffin will be the Raiders offensive coordinator, but it's solid circumstantial evidence that Sarkisian is the head coach.

It's not unusual for the Raiders coach to be in place for a few days while contract details are ironed out and a formal announcement is made.

Kiffin, 31, is considered a riser on the coaching profession. The son of Tampa Bay Buccaneers longtime defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, Lane Kiffin was a finalist for the head coaching job at the University of Minnesota that went to Denver tight ends coach Tim Brewster.

Kiffin was recently contacted by Nick Saban for a spot on his staff at the University of Alabama.

With Sarkisian leaving for the Raiders, Kiffin could stay at USC and presumably become the lone offensive coordinator of the top college football program in the country, which could give him ample opportunities next year as a college head coach.

If Kiffin were to join the Raiders, he and Sarkisian could assume a partnership similiar to the one they had at USC. There, Kiffin called plays from the press box with Sarkisian running the game on the field with the power to overrule a call.

It remains to be seen whether Davis wants to pair his 32-year-old head coach with a 31-year-old offensive coordinator, both of whom were in the Pac-10 in 2006. Marc Trestman, a veteran coordinator with NFL experience, including a stint with the Raiders from 2001 through 2003, has already interviewed and is waiting for a call.

Davis, a line coach at USC from 1957 through 1959 before leaving to join Sid Gillman in 1960 with the San Diego Chargers, has long been enamored with all things USC. He has collected Trojans players whenever possible and even shared the Los Angeles Coliseum with the school when the Raiders were in Los Angeles.

One of my favorite Al Davis stories was told by Jim Harbaugh awhile back on the radio in an interview on The Jim Rome Show.

When Harbaugh told Davis he was going to leave his job as Raiders quarterbacks coach to take over as head coach at University of San Diego, a non-scholarship Division I-AA school, the reaction was negative. Davis told Harbaugh he was making a bad career move.

Harbaugh reminded Davis of his own resume, which included time a college coach.

"Yes, but I coached at USC, not USD,'' Davis said.
