Hellooooooo, helloooooooooooo....anybody home.

WTF? Where did everybody disappear to. Did rupert say something wrong? Or was it Angel? :D

Too busy drinking away the Raider sorrows?

:(

Meh.. how lame is it when I'm not even so sure we're going to kick the Browns' asses this weekend? Hope you guys get to see the first Andrew Walter "W".

I'm preparing my trip to California... Will be there on friday. Hope we will watch our Raiders first win, otherwise someone bring the poison, life ain't worth without Raiders victories.

The Browns are favored by 2 1/2 points and we're playing at home. Now that is really sad.

All we can do is hope for some sort of improved OL play and maybe a miracle.

Totally agree.. although.. the good news is that our offense seems to be capable of moving down the field somewhat when Walter is in, as compared to moving backwards when Brooks is in. So, I think there's some good to come of this QB change. I REALLY hope Walter steps up, stays healthy, and takes control of the team for good. It's about damned time we get a franchise-quality QB going on.

Plus, it'll shut up the "We Shoulda Drafted Matt Lienart!" retards. Hehe..

*poke*

:D

I'm really stating to see Al's wisdom about NOT drafting "franchise quarterbacks" high in the first round. The frustration is unbeliveable. Look at Eli Manning, David Carr, Rick Mirer, Ryan Leaf, Joey Harrington, Akli Smith etc...all long term projects.

So now to me Al's process of letting other teams develope QB's and then getting them later in their careers isn't all that bad. I used to think it sucked until I thought about it some more and it's finally getting thorugh my head --- Flores, Lamonica, Plunkett, Gannon...

Al's running out of time. I hope Walter is our answer like Turo mentioned. If not I'm not sure WTF we're gonna do. I'm pretty sure Brooks isn't the answer.

I'm not buying it. I don't have the numbers but I doubt that the bust rate for QB's is significantly bigger than it is for other positions. I hope that Walter proves to be the answer. However, if he isn't then we have to take the plunge next season. I mean... look what playing it safe got us.

Al's philosophy about not drafting QB's early might be vindicated if the guys he drafted instead of the "franchise" QB would (or have) performed better at this level.

Let's hope (and I do believe he will) that Michael Huff sort of ends the drought.

Al's biggest problem with drafting a QB high is that you have to play high draft picks because you have to pay them. QB's usually take 3 years to get acclimated to the NFL. There's no way Al wants to pay some guy big bucks for 3 years and not play them (okay, I already hear the Charles Woodson comments).

Anyone can complain about the quality of picks, but eventual quality has no correlation to likelihood that they will play day one.

Last year's draft: Washington started year 1 (injuries helped this along), Routt was the nickel until he prooved to be over his head, Walter is starting due to injury this season, and Morrison started and excelled.

This year's draft: Huff, Howard, and McQuistan all started. Now Boothe looks to be replacing McQuistan. Art still likes McQuistan, so he might get another chance on the line this season or next season.

Two years in a row that picks in our 1st 3 rounds are starting. It's a pretty good record for the last 2 drafts.

Agreed, although.. grabbing a starting slot on THIS team isn't exactly a crowning achievement, especially at safety or linebacker.. where we more or less had an open slot waiting for a warm body. Granted, our defense has been playing their hearts out and have been left twisting in the breeze by our offense... let's hope that all changes this week with Walter at the helm, with 2 weeks of prep for our O-line and with 2 weeks of intensive ginko biloba treatments for Tom Walsh.

With the exception of McQuistan, they all appear to be playing well. So regardless of whether grabbing the starting spot was a simple task or not, playing at a high level in the NFL says a lot about the quality of player we drafted.

Let me clarify my opinion on Tom Walsh. We will NOT know how good he or his offense is until the O-Line has jelled. It is far too soon for any kind of judgement about his abilities and snide remarks about his intelligence.

Tim Brown brought up the length of the terminology he uses, and that's all well and good, but Walter didn't think it was worth discussing, and Grove thought the offense needed to do more to get back into the huddle. So neither one thought the terminology was the prevailing factor in their slow approach to the line. Art Shell suggested that the decision on play selection was taking a little too long. So far, every opinion offered points away from the terminology, not that I discount it because of that, but the other three opinions demonstrate there is more the offense can do to help things along.

Not to keep poking at you Roop, but you really think Langston has been playing well this year? I think the entire right side of our line has been attrocious. The left side hasn't been quite as bad, and they're improving, but they aren't what I'd call "solid", either. Gallery continues to get manhandled and is certainly far less talented than the book-end tackle we allegedly drafted.

Unless we see some monumental improvement over the rest of this season, I think we very well might see Gallery moving inside or back to the RT position, at a minimum. Hopefully with a year of experience, our young guys can flourish inside and our interior will be solid.. but that remains to be seen. Then, we still need to figure out what the hell to do about our LT position. Personally, I say we take whatever money we aren't paying Moss/Porter next season and invest the lion's share into our offensive line. A team stocked at skill positions is nothing without a solid O-line, as we're seeing so aptly proven by this year's squad.

Personally I am very disappointed in Langston Walker. I really thought he got a raw deal from Turner & Co. but maybe now I am seeing why he wasn't playing the last two years. He stinks right now and doesn't look like he can get it done.

Gallery I think is improving and I really think he's going to be our left tackle. Maybe an average to above average LT. Certainly not a Pro Bowl caliber tackle. Hey, you win some and lose some. I was OK with the pick cuz I thought it was the safe thing to do and we'd be set at LT for 10 years or more. But I expected a much higher level of performance by now form the #2 pick in the entire draft. But then you've all heard all of this before. It is what it is right now. We can only hope for marked improvement the rest of the year.
