Just saw an interview clip from one of the actors on the show. Apparently, we're supposed to come away with a positive opinion of the mother. How...?

I won't post it because it veers completely into politics, but it's out there if you want to see it. Actor's name is J. Alphonse Nicholson.

To be fair, the characters story is rooted in activism. The soldier angle is actually a retcon iirc.

They certainly jumped the shark this last episode but with a little more restraint I think it would have landed ok.

People should really stop the usage of the term privilege in context of racial dynamics altogether though.

I can be following along with someone but as soon as that word comes out, I default instantly to them being a retard.
