Trinidad Chambliss Jihad

Imagine spending 20 years watching mostly trash QB play.

Then getting super lucky with securing the first overall selection.

Then seeing a 6-5 QB who is smart, athletic and successful at the top of almost every media, draftnik or forum board.

And deciding that’s not a good plan and maybe the Tarleton State transfer might do the trick instead.
 
I think he will measure 6' 1" at the combine.

I really like the dude as a mid round developmental type guy, I think he is a project.

Fair enough. Also why Maye and Dart and Daniels went where they did.

You take a guy in the first round at any position, you want that guy to make significant contribution and get to a handful or pro bowls. Some non-team 'scouts' say Mendoza is a potential top-five guy, others say he's a top-12-15 guy.

I see Mendoza as pretty much who he is, and with proper support would execute an O that takes advantage of his talents that helps the team score, will make a few big plays. What I have not seen (and I don't watch a lot of college football) is Mendoza leading more than one 4th quarter comeback.

I see Chambliss as a guy who goes from no stars as a recruit, sits in D-II before he takes a team to the national championship and no game is all that close. Decides to accept a position at Ole Miss as the backup, comes in week three and plays better every week. In big games, he played big. I see him as a guy who will compete in camp, pick things up fast, and has shown he can carry a team.

Of their biggest weaknesses, I see Chambliss as more likely to do better in taking that leap than Mendoza.

I don't think I want to argue with you about this any further, but to summarize, it seems you want someone with elite athletic ability, can lead 4th quarter comebacks, can succeed if pressured on 75% of snaps, will elevate everyone alone them, and can carry a team if there is no running game? Those are the standards? And, by those metrics you think that...Trinidad Chambliss might check those boxes?

And that’s exactly what Mendoza will be up against next Monday.

I hear you. We can agree to disagree.

I think Chambliss is more likely to check off those boxes than Mendoza. I thought Jayden Daniels was that guy though I was worried about his durability given his size. But I also have concern about Chambliss in that regard though I believe in his ability to make chicken soup out of chicken shit is important for a team that has no O-line and no D. At least that's what he faced this year playing for Ole Miss.

Hedging your bets with a trade down is the definition of playing it safe.

A Chambliss jihad is just your way to justify not really wanting to take that risk at 1.1.

The ballsy move would be to take Moore first overall if he comes out because of the perceived upside.

I’d be worried about his back going forward.
Having to carry a full program to the semi finals has to be hard on a kids back
 
Now that Moore is going back to Oregon (good for him), 1.1 got way more valuable. If the new offensive mind wants Mendoza, sees him as the guy to build around, great.

After watching Marcus on TDL break down his Cal film I'm higher on him. And for sure you do all you can to convince the world you are sold on Mendoza.

The Jets are now in a truly desperate situation. Desperate teams do desperate things.

I've flirted with a 'what would I need?" scenario... Garrett Wilson, Armand Membou, Olu Fashanu, 1.2, and 1.16. That'd be my bare minimum to even get me to consider it.
 
The Jets roster is bad. Can't see them parting with any O-linemen if they trade for Mendoza.

They have two first round picks this year and three next year, though.

This year's firsts and second, two of the 2026 firsts.
