Chiefs | Green named starter for Week 11
Wed, 15 Nov 2006 09:42:57 -0800

Updating a previous item, Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports Kansas City Chiefs head coach Herman Edwards has named QB Trent Green as the starting quarterback for the team's Week 11 game. "We're going to go with Trent as our starter," Edwards said. "This has been his football team for a long time. I think his return will give us a shot of adrenaline. But Trent alone won't allow us to win games. We all have to circle around him and play better and coach better if we're going to win games down the stretch."

No Tony G. and a punch drunk Trent Green.

Seems like a good thing to me.

Thier line is healthier but still pretty patchwork. I'm not worried about the deep pass from them but they might intermediate us to death... Put Fabian on Kennison and let Nnamdi and Poole take on any other WRs. Let Huff stack the box every play and let Stu play center field... play the run every down with our LBs... I think we can win this one by limiting thier O

Gonzo was list as DOUBTFUL today. So who knows he might suit up. Brian Waters and Derrick Johnson are listed as OUT. Sims is listed as OUT so I'm thinking he's got a sports hernia and they're playing the waiting game hoping it clears up but I doubt that happens.

Gonzo won't play....but Trent will....don't know if that's a good thing or a bad one....:p

The quarterback must go down and he must go down HARD. ;)

Yeah...but poor Walter has been sacked sooooooooo much already!! :p

Jared Allen could potentially have a field day against this OL.

Bring on Trent...

...in a wheelchair and a football helmet from the shortbus.
Last time the Raiders D faced a QB coming off a brain-bruising they got one of their two wins. But the KC 'O' line is much better than Pittsburgh's....right? The Raiders aren't winning much but the defense comes hard and fast every play.
Why pull out the stops against a 2-7 rival? Especially one with a good defense and nothing to lose? If Trent goes down, then Huard is in for the rest of the year and the KC playoff hopes disappear slowly in the rearview mirror. Herm's wrong on this one, but I'm glad.

Huard Scared?

HUARD WAS "PLAYING SCARED" AGAINST THE FINS

A league source tells us that the Chiefs decided to make the change from quarterback Damon Huard back to Trent Green due in part to the fact that Huard was "playing scared" against the Miami Dolphins.

Per the source, several Miami defenders perceived that Huard was tentative against a physical front seven, and they concluded that it negatively affected his performance.

A career backup, Huard started only six games in nine years before starting eight straight games in 2006.

Hey, no one who plays in the NFL is a coward (except for the members of the Gramatica family tree). But it would be naïve to believe that some players aren't thinking (consciously or otherwise) about avoiding a hit. ESPN broke down video a couple of weeks ago of Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer instinctively lifting his left leg prematurely in order to avoid exposing his new ACL to injury. And Carson is no chicken.

These guys, after all, are human. (Most of them, anyway.) And human beings generally don't like to get the crap beat out of them. Some of us are less inclined than others to take a pounding, and Huard's lack of live reps over the years might have caused him to land in that category.

I had a chat with someone about how bad Huard played at Miami...he suggested maybe it was Huard's way of making it easy for Trent to come back.
