Any anglers on here? What’s your favorite fish to catch? Mine is catfish, but I fish for whatever bites my bait. They are stocking WVa from January-May, and hoping they stock our local area with trout today, but the WVDNR doesn’t post stockings ahead of time, only after. Hoping to trout fish tomorrow with my pastor.

I fish cabo typically once a year but don't do much other than that. I did a little fly fishing last Summer and might do some more of that, my buddy is into it and need something to do on days I'm too tired to mountain bike.

I also like to catfish but my favorite spot has silted in. I would go where a smaller river dumped into a reservoir and paddle a canoe upriver into a maze of channels, it could be awesome in the spring. There would sometimes be boats anchored at the mouth in the reservoir, but they couldn't get past the sand bars up into the river.

I came out of that channel on a moonless night around 2:30 carried silently by the current in a 16' 9" canoe with my only light being the glow of my cigar and pasted within about 20' of a boat anchored there. I thought one guy was going overboard having just seen a Loch Ness monster with a glowing red eye. The commotion and swearing was spectacular.

You need to ask @Crow about his catfishing adventures. ;)

Is he a noodler? If so I would like him better. :chuckle:

I also bow fish and that can be a lot of fun, out of a canoe taking turns with a partner one standing up shooting while the other paddles. We will sometimes play a drinking game if you miss you must take a shot. Standing up in a canoe isn't an easy thing add a couple of shots into the equation and everything in the boat needs to be able to float. A great way to spend a warm summer day.

I haven't fished in a while but we have some of the best salt water fishing anywhere. In shore, snook and redfish are my favorites. Snook is arguably one of the toughest fighting fish you will encounter and one of the best tasting.

Offshore we have a wide variety of species. My favorite eating are red snapper, cobia, and mahi. As far as fighting goes, anything in the pelagic family like tuna, wahoo, kingfish are going to give you a good battle.

I once caught a fish this big

Definitely a noodler.

We've been catching some nice channel cats the last couple of weeks.

I give them a whack on the head and cut the gills, so that they bleed out (it's really hard to kill a catfish) and it makes for cleaner meat. There's a vein line that runs down the middle of the fillet I remove it and turn each fillet into two narrow ones and on the bigger fish that have really thick fillets I cut them in half length wise so no thicker than about a half inch, I also remove the red meat that is right next to the skin if I get too close to the skin with the fillet knife.
Soak for a few hours minimum or overnight in buttermilk and Frank's. Fry them in the standard egg, cajun seasoned flour and cornmeal thing.

Mild, moist and delicious, my wife's favorite.

We have salt water cats here but I don't think there is much food value. I don't know anyone that eats saltwater cats plus they slime up you line and eat your hook. Some guy had caught a sail cat and told me of you soak it in milk for like 8 hours or some shit like that, it becomes edible. Why even bother when there are so many good eating fish here.
