The Rattay jihad lives

I never thought all that much of Booty at SC and Kiff's system made him pretty servicable.
Agreed on that. Also booty wasnt all that athletic or much of a runner either. in fact 33 carries for negative 53 yards.

For what it's worth, I read this on another board .........

I played QB for the Broncos from 1963-1967. In Januray, 1967, Al Davis traded for Willie Brown & myself (I was a throw-in) giving up a DT named Rex Mirich. I could not pass the physical so I retired & took a job as OC at my alma mater, Louisiana Tech. I had the great privilege of coaching Terry Bradshaw & many other Tech stars who went on to the NFL--Roger Carr, Pat Tilley, Roland Harper, Billy Ryckman, Mike Barber, and others.

Tim Rattay is a Tech grad & I am his biggest fan. Tim Rattay will be a perfect fit for the Raiders--a seven-year vet who has had some big games-can make every throw needed-very savvy with experience-and a leader on the field & in the locker room. He is in the prime of his career & is healthy as a horse. Tim is a high character guy and a "field-rat," the son of a football coach.

I have written two e-mail messages urging Coach Davis to sign this unrestricted free agent, Tim Rattay. He is right now BETTER than Walter & Booty put together & would make a tremendous addition to the Raiders. If Tim is signed, all of the Raider nation will be SO GLAD Coach Davis picked him up.

VERY interesting. I hope Rattay gets a real look.

I think signing Rattay would be a smart move.

Terry Bradshaw had this to say about Rattay a few weeks ago. I love the blast on the 49ers.

Q. Does it surprise you about Tim Rattay's not getting NFL work?

"I don't understand it because Tim's not someone who is a problem. He's a good locker room guy. I don't know why in San Francisco that the fans got on him. That's a sorry-assed football team. Horrible offensive line. They go out and get this kid, (Alex) Smith. He's supposed to be able to run all over.

"Then he goes down to Tampa Bay. Played great for the last four or five games of the season. Then I understand that he's an unrestricted free agent and more than likely, (Jon) Gruden's gonna cut him loose. He's a West Coast offense guy, who's smart, accurate and moves the ball to the right people. There is a place for him. His career is by no means over with.

"If you want to put him some place and have him gun it, it isn't going to happen. He can run the Eagle offense or the Packer offense. He runs the Tampa Bay offense pretty well. But these coaches have this idea, they want their quarterbacks to be 6-foot-5. They went out and got (Jeff) Garcia. He's not much bigger than Tim, if he's even as big.

"You have to be in the right spot. I thought San Francisco was perfect for him. I did not think Tampa Bay was a good fit for him. But because they throw so many short passes, I thought, 'hmmmmm.'

"He won't break that window when he throws it, but he'll get it to you and it'll be to the right people. He closed out the year well, so he just has to get in the right situation."

"(David) Carr at Houston is gone and he was the first player taken in the draft five years ago. They cut him after giving him a $7 million roster bonus last year. He's looking for a job. Then you've got Brad Johnson who's bounced around, bounced around, bounced around. He's all over the place in his 17th year. He's making a million and a half doing whatever he does."

The more I think about rattay I like him in Silver and Black.
Son of a coach, nice guy, very very competitive. Reminds me of Gannon in the fact that he's done pretty well when asked to play, but alsways got passed over for the huy that looked more the part.

The guy has in his career averaged:
60.7% completions
almost 2:1 touchdowns vs. Int.
an 82.6 QB rating

Not too bad to push the younglings or start until they (whoever they are) can start.

FYI - Gannon's career #'s
60.2% completion
almost 2:1 touchdowns vs. Int.
84.7 QB Rating

Alright, fuck it. I'm on the Rattay Bandwagon.

It's a no brainer at this stage of the game. We better sign him before someone else grabs him.

This could be the most glorious thread ever. Looks at how the herd shifts and follows my lead. I am a god!

You're reading my mind.

I think we have to have our potential QB of the future drafted this year. While Walter may be the second coming of John Elway he hasn't shown that yet and we're just digging ourselves a deeper hole every year by not addressing the QB situation long term.

Hmmm Leniart or Huff. Leinart or Huff. Damn.

74.0 QB rating playing in the NFC West with an excellent receiving corps? What do you really think would have been different if he had been running our offense last year?

Just like in the movie Ice Age when one dodo bird led the rest of the soon to be extinct dodo birds off the cliff... "Doom on you, doom on you, doom on you"... :p

Sorry it's going to be hard to be overly enthusiastic about a QB depth chart consisting of an oft injured QB, a QB that got beat out by Cody Pickett and a QB that's been out of the game for four years...

I dont think the signing of Booty and Rattay precludes us from drafting a QB in round one.

As of right now, we have Walter-Booty-Jeff Otis: 2 camp arms and a backup.

We need a veteran QB no matter who or what we draft.
