The Raiders have waived...

Nancy's just pissy cuz she can't turn Kiffin's head. Must be an age thing.

Lookie look who cleared waivers and is getting the Bing treatment.

07/25/2007 WR Jonathan Holland Placed on injured reserve

Dumbass

07/25/2007 S Jarrod Cooper Released

That's what you get. KK is holding everyone accountable. Nancy Gay says KK cut him because he was too young.

So much for the USC Loyalty angle. watch out BMW

WTF??

Why wouldn't we wait to see how Bing looked once the hitting starts in two days?... Or did his neck fail the physical?...

Al needs the money to get JR in camp on time. Just starting at the bottom.

Bush in, Cooper and Bing out
Posted by Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer on Wednesday at 3:16 pm

The Raiders confirmed the signing of running back Michael Bush Wednesday as well as the releases of safeties Jarrod Cooper and Darnell Bing.

Cooper's status was in jeopardy from the moment it was announced he had received a four-games suspension for violating the NFL's steroid policy.

The release of Bing, a fourth-round draft pick out of USC last season, came as at least a mild surprise.

The Raiders attempted to make Bing a weakside linebacker after a career as a safety at USC. He was placed on injured reserve following a neck injury during the preseason.

Bing was moved back to safety when Lane Kiffin came aboard, and he seemed to make his share of plays during OTAs and minicamps.

Kiffin, when asked about the shift of Bing during the offseason, said simply and without enthusiasm it was Bing's best chance to make the team.

The exit of Cooper and Bing reduces the glut at safety. Remaining on the training camp roster are 2006 starters Michael Huff and Stuart Schweigert, veteran free agent acquisitions Donovin Darius, Colin Branch and B.J. Ward, holdover Hiram Eugune and rookie fifth-round draft pick Eric Frampton.

You have to be down to 80 players, not including the players we sent to Europe, by the time training camp starts. That played a part as did the fact we have a lot of safeties signed already. Haven't heard anything on his neck and he participated in the minicamps. We were at 92 players at one point.

Current Roster is at 90. We allocated 5 to Europe (LB Ricardo Dickerson, WR Rich Parson, CB Levonne Rowan, DE Dave Tollefson and WR Lauren Williams - Does that still count now that the league is disbanded?). So we've got 5 more coming?

AP are you sure we need to be at 80 going in to camp?

Unless they changed it, that was the rule and I haven't heard anything to the contrary but we never know.

Just to test my memory, I looked it up and it is correct...this is from last year...

The Bucs have brought 89 men to training camp, pushing past the NFL limit of 80 players thanks to nine exemptions earned by NFL Europe players this spring. Once they signed their deals, Joseph and Trueblood began to count against that 89-man limit, which means the team will have to make some further roster adjustments on Friday morning before the start of practice.

My guess is we'll also see cut

Courtney Anderson
Zach Crockett
Carlos francis

One other thing...of the 90 players that are currently on the roster, I don't think we count Dominic Rhodes. That would make it 89.

They also have Tony Jackson listed and he was waived. That makes it 88.

The NFL Europe players are Dave Tollefson, Lauren Williams, Levonne Rowan, Ricardo Dickerson, and Rich Parsons. That makes it 83.

I like that we saved Cooper's $1 million plus salary, that probably equates to an $800, 000 savings on our salary cap.

I also like that we re-signed Holland to the IR. He is cheap and a good investment for next offseason.

I feel sheepish.

Bing was a guy I pimped for a while.

Oh well...Is he still PS eligible?

I liked Bing, but the old fart Darius bumped him off the depth chart plain and simple. Bing will get signed by another team probably and might be an effective Safety in another system. i think he'd be solid as a cover 2 Safety. Its pretty much all about Huff and Schweigert with vets in the extra safety spot(branch/darius)

I've done some research and I believe Rhodes counts against the roster except during his suspension. Teams activate players during the suspended games and the suspended player cannot practice.
"Under league policy, the team may permit the suspended player to participate in normal offseason activities, including training camp and preseason games"

"Players may not participate in practices during the suspension, but will be allowed to attend team meetings and work out at team facilities."

"A Player will not count against the team’s 53-man roster during his suspension."

Darius is 31, and still has a couple seasons left.

I dont know why the 'old fart' thing is getting thrown out there, RM. Even with him, we only have 5 guys over 30 (One is a punter) and an average age of nearly 25.

If Sapp can have a renaissance at 33, I don't doubt the DD can be an effective Big Nickel/SS for us.

He came very cheap too.
