With our fall out of the top 3-5 picks, it's time to find a realistic jihad to...well...jihad for. Easy pick for me. USC DT Sedrick Ellis.

Won't be a good fit for the 3-4 jihadists. But an ideal UT for those hoping for some sort of Tampa-2. A sweet combination of effort and production. Won't eat up blockers stuffing the run. But he'll make sure QBs don't have all day to scan the field like they do now. I'm for it.
 
Hmmm...lot of "official" threads going around this time of year. :chucle:

He would be money in most D's. He could step in and play in our scheme and do well today! Would our Cb's be a good fit for the tampa 2?
 
I think so. Scrabble and Routt both have good size and are solid tacklers. They both have a burst coming forward. I like the fit, personally.

Morrison and Howard look ideal for it.

We just gotta get that safety situation situated.
 
Ellis is a nice player, but I'd as soon shitcan that 3 technique spot and go the Jacksonville route... Put two toilet pluggers in the middle and let the LB's clean up...


Then again, if we do something like bring in Ed Orgeron to install Pete Carroll's 43 under defense, I could be persuaded to change my mind ;)... Orgeron face planted as a head coach, but the guy was nails calling a defense at SC, knows Kiff well and sure as hell knows how to develop D-linemen...
 
Kiffin has some money connections. Thats good stuff.

Also easier to find these guys, IMO. The rub, of course, is that we'd have to find a 10 sack RE to offset the lack of interior pass rush.

Also "3-4 jihadists?" Cripes, there better not be too many of these people. Howard, Morrison, Burgess, Sands, Warren, these are not 3-4 players. The two players in our front 7 that best fit the system are Sammy Pushup and Jay Richardson. Please.
 
I dunno. I rather like Morrison and Howard as the inside backers in a 34. Burgess has a history of playing LB, and now he's looking like one. Skinny fucker.

Sands and Warren? Blah. They're not much good in any scheme. Not as starters, anyway.

I don't see more than 3 players on our D roster that 'fit' a 3-4.

Why switch now?

Richardson and Kelly could play DE, but lets not kid ourselves, we arent talking about Olshansky and Castillo, and we sure as hell don't have Terrell Suggs, Phillips, Merriman or anyone else worth a damn on the edge.

We are a safety, end and tackle away from having one of the top young 4-3 D's in the league, IMO. Not worth it now to scrap and start over.

Im also starting to like Ellis if we fall in the 6-10 range. Or Keith Rivers on a trade down.
 
i'd go as far as to say we are just an end and a NOSE tackle away from being locked up on defense

if stu can cover half the field and isnt responsible to bring down RBs by himself, he'd be a more than serviceable safety

however if we are going to move him out of the picture, Steltz at SS with Huff at FS would be awesome

I'm liking Burgess less and less as a DE. Kid's about 220 pounds right now, best as I can figure. If someone wants to grade our guys in terms of 3-4 potential, Burgess has to get at least a C for his rush LB potential. Clemons as a specialist...perhaps.

But, it's all moot until we get someone who can man the nose. Regardless of scheme, we need a fucking run stopper in the middle...and preferably a bigger LE.
 
Some feel that due to Dorsey's owies and Ellis' projected combine numbers, Sed could actually overtake GD as the 1st DT drafted.

Anyone here feel cheated if we have to settle for Glenn Dorsey?

Not at all. As long as the Pats dont draft McFadden ill be happy.
 
I won't be happy with the Pats until they audition for Wear Are Marshall 2.
 
Im starting to lean towards a space eater in round two, over a gap shooter like Ellis in the top ten.

A guy like Red Bryant, Frank Okam, Dre Moore or Marcus Harrison would present good value and allow us to take a beast like Gholston or Campbell in the first round.

I dont like the depth of the DE class this year, and doubt we get a difference maker like Quintin Moses in round two or three...(Maybe Jackson or Ellis would fall though?)
