The Not Too Early 2026 NFL Draft Thread

Just listened to "First Draft" with Mel Kiper and Fields Yates.

Kiper says Dante Moore is "a grand slam. At this pace he'll be the first pick in the draft, if he comes out." I'm paraphrasing.

Yet they also said the QB class, in general, is underwhelming.

This mock has Raiders taking Downs...

That would be downs for sure.

I didn’t know they had already started draft talk. They kinda annoy the hell out me though. Long tangents about nothing then next thing you know an hour passes and they spent an half the time talking about 3 guys but the rest of the players they mention the other 10-15 get about 5 seconds each in a scattered mess of a podcast. JMHO

If Mel likes Moore it makes me not want to like him and that sucks.

Browns and Jets going Qb again.

A safety for the Raiders? GTFOH
If Downs can play the Earl Thomas role then ya we can just assume that’s the pick. I have not really watched Downs yet though so I have no idea if he has that type of game tk him.

Mock Draft by the Athletic

IU Mendoza went to Saints. I called out Mendoza as an option previously in the first round.

2. New Orleans Saints: Fernando Mendoza, QB, Indiana

As is often the case, the quarterback discussion has gotten more interesting since the start of the season. It’s still early, and plenty could change. For now, though, I’m down to Mendoza and South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers as the top two quarterbacks in this class.

I’ve loved how much Mendoza has already improved under Indiana coach Curt Cignetti — and he was already a smart player before he got to Indiana. Mendoza has handled pressure well and hit on nearly 60 percent of his third-and-long attempts. If his accuracy holds throughout the Big Ten slate, he’ll remain in the discussion for QB1.

8. Las Vegas Raiders: Kadyn Proctor, OT, Alabama

Proctor had a sloppy start in Alabama’s season opener versus Florida State, but he was back to being a house on wheels during the Tide’s recent win over Georgia. He is as physically impressive an OT prospect as you’ll ever see. If he can stack days like that Georgia performance, he could flirt with the No. 1 spot.

Bama o-linemen are hit or really miss. Under Saban the perception was that they peaked in college.

This guy is super freaky owww….

Better than Caleb Downs?

The most celebrated defensive player in the country entering this season was Ohio State safety Caleb Downs, an All-American and leader on last year’s national champions.

The Buckeyes (4-0) are again No. 1 in the country, and Downs has 15 tackles and an interception for one of the stingiest defenses in the country. Ohio State is allowing 5.5 points per game.

However, some coaches who have faced Ohio State say Buckeyes linebacker Arvell Reese is surpassing Downs as the most valuable of the Silver Bullets.

“(No. 8) is their best player on that defense,” said one offensive coach, granted anonymity to speak candidly about an opponent.

The 6-4, 243-pound Reese is tied for the team lead in tackles with 25, with two sacks and a team-best two passes broken up. The junior’s stat line doesn’t present the whole picture.

“He is a super freak, and he’s not just an athletic freak,” the coach said. “They ask him to do a lot. I think if you replaced him with an average player, they’d be in some trouble. If you replaced Caleb Downs with an average player, they’d be fine. (Reese) is a hybrid body, who is long, rangy and explosive. He is smart enough and he can cover, blitz and hold up against linemen, can cover tight ends, can cover backs. He’s playing their ‘adjustor’ position, so he rushes as a down lineman in pass-rush situations. He’s just really impressive.”
