The Not Too Early 2025 Draft Thread

A-fuckin-men

I think everything has been sufficiently beat to death.
We can look forward to another cheeseball draft production from the NFL where Herr Goodell highlights himself spooning all the kids in their moment of glory.

Should be an enjoyable six hours.

Welcome back to The McShay Show! Todd and Steve open by reacting to Michigan CB Will Johnson’s predraft workout and what it could mean for his draft stock. Then, they discuss different top-10 scenarios, including how Shedeur Sanders to the Giants at 3 could shake up the draft. To close, the guys dive deep into their offensive line scouting reports.

Who wears the pants? 1.6 should shed light on where power resides in the front office…absent a trade. Stick and pick, consensus odds are:
  1. QB Sanders
  2. RB Jeanty
  3. RT Membou
  4. OLB Walker
Sanders (investing in future) and Jeanty (picking for now) present a real dichotomy. As between Brady (owner/former QB) and Carroll (win now HC), it would tell us where power lies. Membou would be an investment in #Beaf and convert Spyguy’s big talk into action. Walker would be an investment in Carroll’s D by drafting a Bruce Irvin comp. Who convinced who which way to go or put their foot down? Should be telling.

Picking for now with all the holes in this roster? Dump. It’s what the Raiders have been doing for 30+ years. Is the Big Picture dead in Las Vegas?

So you think you can pick apart the power structure of an organization based on who they pick 😂 Couldn’t Pete and SpyGate just agree on the same guy without it being who has the bigger dick ?

Also the likelihood of Tom Brady year one coming in and putting his foot down for a QB and overstepping the guys who he just helped put in place is damn near zero. If by chance we did draft Sanders it would absolutely represent a combined agreement that Sanders is our guy and the best way to move forward. The idea that the HC and GM would even sign up to be Brady’s bitch it’s laughable. Tom is going to help identify qualities he likes and probably pick the brain of a QB but he’s not pounding the table year one out the door.

What if you think Jeanty is special? Does position value mean that much?

You speak in extremes. It can easily be more nuanced than that. For example, Brady can just comment on big picture and bend people to his will. He does not need any theatrics. And Carroll will say the right things b/c he knows his place. After voicing his opinion and not moving the needle on Jeanty or Walker, Carroll might focus on getting his guy(s) on Day 2. Spyguy might get Brady to back his play for #Beaf. Or, they might all come to agree, as you say, that Jeanty is special or drafting a QBOTF was a no brainer.

The reported top four prospects likely on the board just play into these questions: Drafting for now or later? Drafting top #Beaf or a B. Irvin clone? I’ll certainly comment after the draft even after Spyguy and Carroll say the right things. Left to his own devices, Carroll’s drafting Jeanty or Walker (IMO).

What would be a “big picture” pick for you? Drafting a QB that only the two teams that don’t have QB’s seem to be forced into taking? Hell even the Browns and Giants seem to be saying NTY to Sanders or Dart…

Only real “big picture” move I see is trading back and gaining more picks. We can’t force that now can we. So you got Jeanty or Membou. Maybe Mike Green who I think is an absolute stud edge rusher.

I speak in extremes ? You said “who wears the pants” and “where the power lies” it could be as simple as SpyGate and Pete simply agreeing on who what and where to take a player and the given value they have in building the team. I really think the “who has the power” thing is way overblown for most functional teams. Pete and SpyGate both came from functional organizations.

Fair. Doesn’t change my POV that Carroll would draft Jeanty or Walker over Sanders and Membou.
